Job Description
HopSkipDrive is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Quality Infrastructure to join its remote-first team. The company operates a digital platform that provides specialized transportation services for schools and school districts, connecting families with vetted caregivers. As a Series D venture-backed business, the organization has facilitated over five million rides across more than twenty states and utilizes artificial intelligence deeply within daily operations.
In this position, you will lead the creation of developer infrastructure that enables engineering personnel to test and release code securely. You will design CI/CD pipelines, ephemeral environments, and systems incorporating AI-driven testing and verification. Working alongside four product teams and the platform unit, you will establish benchmarks for test coverage, track key performance metrics like failure rates and pipeline duration, and address bottlenecks. The role requires participating in incident response and on-call rotations for pipeline and testing systems.
This opportunity is well-suited for an experienced platform or developer infrastructure engineer who has built organization-wide testing pipelines and automation frameworks. Candidates should possess a strong background in AWS, Terraform, containers, and Rails, along with a focus on writing clear technical proposals and guiding other engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead infrastructure development to support secure testing and deployment via CI/CD, ephemeral environments, and AI-powered testing
- Create workflows allowing artificial intelligence to generate test suites while engineers maintain oversight of quality and safeguards
- Define cross-functional benchmarks for feature-complete test coverage in collaboration with product teams
- Monitor metrics such as CI duration, test failure frequency, and critical journey coverage to eliminate bottlenecks
- Provide technical leadership and influence testing practices across the platform group and four product groups
- Participate in on-call duties and incident response for pipelines and test infrastructure, resolving system failures
- Produce written proposals and decision records to build consensus with product and engineering colleagues
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in developer infrastructure, platform engineering, or test automation, including leading technical work across multiple teams
- Extensive knowledge of AWS, Terraform, containers via Docker or Kubernetes, and Postgres
- Familiarity with large Ruby on Rails applications alongside React and mobile clients
- Direct experience building and owning a CI/CD pipeline and automated test coverage used by an entire engineering organization
- Deep production experience with Playwright or equivalent tools for automated web, iOS, and Android testing in CI
- Practical background using coding agents and LLM tooling for test generation and verification
- Ability to communicate trade-offs in writing within a remote and asynchronous environment
Core Skills
Benefits
- Company equity stock options
- Flexible vacation policy
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
- 401(k) plan
