Job Description
Chime seeks a hands-on Tech Lead Manager to direct its Data Integration Platform squad. Operating as a financial technology company rather than a traditional bank, Chime builds intuitive tools and digital platforms designed to help everyday consumers manage their money, save for milestones, and reach their financial goals. In this player-coach position, the successful candidate will steer the overarching roadmap and strategy for incoming and outgoing first- and third-party data flows, while staying technically engaged through architectural design, code reviews, and targeted programming tasks.
The role centers on evolving a secure, reliable, and scalable integration infrastructure that feeds analytics, machine learning pipelines, and experimentation across the ecosystem. This practitioner will collaborate closely with various engineering squads, product teams, and security divisions to establish robust data contracts, strict service level agreements, and automated governance tooling. It suits an experienced technical leader who enjoys balancing team mentorship and operational health with high-leverage software engineering. The position operates on an on-site model requiring four days per week in the office and Fridays working from home.
Full-time team members receive a base salary range between $199,000 and $275,000 USD, alongside opportunities for bonuses, competitive equity, and extensive health, financial, and wellness benefits.
Responsibilities
- Own the strategic roadmap and daily execution for ingestion pipelines, connectors, and overall data movement infrastructure
- Guide the team through direct technical contributions such as architecture creation, design assessments, code reviews, and critical production work
- Design and scale high-performance integration architecture supporting both analytical workloads and in-product data flows
- Build and maintain reliable connectors across application programming interfaces, event streams, file transfers, and change data capture mechanisms
- Establish security standards, data contracts, schema evolution rules, and error management procedures with partner teams
- Develop automation and tooling for compliance, role-based access control, lineage, and personal identifiable information protection
- Lead, hire, mentor, and performance-manage a team of engineers while driving operational excellence and incident management best practices
Requirements
- Minimum of eight years of professional software engineering experience focusing on platforms, infrastructure, and high-reliability data movement systems
- Minimum of three years of experience managing engineering teams, including performance management, hiring, and staff development
- Deep familiarity with data integration components such as change data capture pipelines, event streaming, connector frameworks, data lakes, and warehouses
- Expertise in data and system architecture covering schema design, security, cost efficiency, and data contracts across system boundaries
- Proficiency with modern infrastructure tools like Kafka, Flink, Spark, Airflow, Kubernetes, and ingestion frameworks
- Hands-on coding fluency in Python, Java, or Scala, alongside strong SQL skills for analytical workload tuning
- Extensive background working within cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
