Chime is seeking a Tech Lead Manager to guide its Lending division, developing platforms and products that offer members fair credit access, liquidity tools, and financial solutions like SpotMe, MyPay, and Instant Loans. Operating consequential systems that handle real-time money movement, underwriting, reconciliation, and capital markets workflows, this division builds core financial infrastructure.
This position suits an engineering leader who wants executive support, real ownership over a new team, and close collaboration with product, design, analytics, and marketing partners. The role combines hands-on coding and technical direction with full people management responsibilities for a small squad.

Responsibilities
- Write and deploy scoped, incremental features directly as a hands-on contributor
- Lead technical architecture, code quality, planning sessions, and design reviews for the squad
- Identify technical debt and promote sustainable engineering practices through active codebase contributions
- Manage 3 to 5 direct reports, conducting 1:1 meetings, coaching careers, delivering performance feedback, and handling promotions
- Drive hiring, staffing, team health, and engagement in partnership with the area Director
- Mentor product engineers to foster technical and product growth
- Guide squad members toward Staff Engineer or future tech lead manager tracks
- Collaborate with Product and Design teams during quarterly planning and sprint delivery to manage scope, technical dependencies, and capacity
Requirements
- Direct professional background in payments, lending, or regulated financial and transactional systems
- Demonstrated experience managing direct reports on a small engineering team, including hiring, 1:1s, coaching, performance management, and promotions
- Track record of maintaining technical contributions while performing management duties
- Experience utilizing AI coding tools and workflows to boost team velocity
- Ability to resolve technical disagreements and balance speed against durability under delivery pressure
- Experience partnering with product managers and designers on scope, planning, and dependencies
