Chime is seeking an engineering leader to guide one of its Spending, Saving & Investing engineering squads. In this position, the selected professional will steer architectural decisions, handle personnel management duties, and actively write code alongside teammates.
This opportunity is well-suited for an experienced software engineering leader who wants to stay hands-on with coding while mentoring talent and guiding team delivery. The role involves working closely with product management, design, and analytics counterparts to coordinate dependencies and achieve squad goals. The base salary for this position starts at $199,000 and can reach up to $275,000, supplemented by a bonus, equity package, and additional benefits.
The working environment requires an on-site presence four days per week, with Fridays designated for working from home for employees near a company office. Responsibilities
- Manage and coach a team of four to five engineers through hiring, one-on-one sessions, performance management, and career progression
- Direct end-to-end squad delivery from sprint planning and service SLAs to operational health and incident response
- Author and ship production-ready code alongside team members via pull requests
- Determine technical direction, architecture, and quality standards for the squad
- Implement and promote AI coding tools and practices to boost output leverage
- Collaborate with product and design teams on scoping, quarterly planning, and capacity needs
- Serve as the cross-functional point of contact for technical capabilities and dependencies
- Identify technical debt and advocate for sustainable engineering practices
Requirements
- Possess at least two years of professional people management experience
- Maintain active, hands-on coding ability and a desire to continue writing code daily
- Demonstrate a track record of using AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor to drive team output
- Show experience coaching team members on execution, skill growth, and career paths
- Bring familiarity with technologies such as Ruby, React Native, distributed systems, AWS services, and service-oriented architectures
