As the Technical Lead for the Data team, you will manage the foundational platform that powers all company products. This position requires a split between hands-on engineering and people leadership. You will oversee data pipelines, workflows, serverless services, and search indexes while guiding a growing team of engineers. Responsibilities include shaping enterprise-grade data architectures, directing client data onboarding, embedding proactive monitoring, and establishing robust incident response procedures.

The role operates on a remote basis with a salary range between CAD 145,000 and 170,000 per year for candidates eligible to work from Ontario. Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of a data engineering team by planning capacity and matching personnel to projects
- Oversee performance management, hiring, onboarding, and career growth for team members
- Direct the architecture, health, and evolution of data platforms including serverless services and streaming pipelines
- Build proactive monitoring systems to catch data quality issues early
- Establish and run incident response protocols, runbooks, and blameless post-incident reviews
- Handle client data onboarding and implementation tasks
- Write hands-on code for new systems, reference implementations, and high-risk changes
- Coach other internal teams on data patterns, workflows, and observability standards
- Incorporate AI tooling safely into development and knowledge workflows
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of professional software engineering experience
- At least 4 years focused on data engineering, ETL, or production data platforms
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading or managing engineers as a team lead
- Extensive and current practical experience with Node.js and TypeScript
- Demonstrated experience designing and running data pipelines on AWS using serverless architectures
- Hands-on production background using Temporal.io or comparable durable workflow orchestration tools
- Strong SQL proficiency alongside relational database and search technology experience
- Proven track record of implementing observability in data systems to minimize production incidents
Qualifications
- Experience working with financial market or instrument data and data reconciliation
- Background in regulated industries with familiarity regarding data privacy regulations like PIPEDA
- Familiarity with DataOps practices, data contracts, data lineage, or data quality frameworks
- Prior experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools or building internal AI solutions
- Familiarity with Datadog or comparable observability platforms
