CBT Nuggets seeks a full-time Technical Product Owner for AI-Directed Development to oversee the daily health and growth of its assessments platform and website. This role does not involve writing code directly; instead, you will direct AI coding agents to implement changes while taking full accountability for what ships into production. Operating with delegated autonomy, you will handle tasks such as planning, directing, verifying, and delivering work according to established team rules, while escalating major product trade-offs, scope adjustments, or irreversible decisions to the Product Owner group.
CBT Nuggets is an organization committed to improving learning effectiveness through trusted IT training. The engineering environment utilizes Next.js, React, Prisma, Postgres, Vercel, and model gateways. Candidates may choose to focus on one of three primary surfaces: Assessments and Data, Website and Conversion, or Platform, Security, and Integrations. The position requires a professional who can operate independently, review code diffs and documentation critically, maintain strict adherence to operator guides, and communicate clearly through precise specifications and structured one-page recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Learn the CBT Nuggets business model, customer base, pricing, and underlying data to independently check metrics in the CRM and data warehouse
- Maintain a product backlog and translate product intent into precise written specifications for AI coding agents
- Direct AI coding agents through the complete change lifecycle from specification to production verification
- Review every code diff critically and catch over-claims in agent-generated summaries before review
- Operate repositories professionally by managing branch protection, required checks, CI, environment variables, feature flags, and dependency advisories
- Update operator documentation concurrently with any behavior-altering change
- Convert operational lessons into dated, durable rules for future agents and team members while retiring stale rules
- Investigate production incidents utilizing logs, metrics, and database records to document root causes and prevention steps
- Build simple user interfaces with buttons to streamline tasks for human colleagues when human intervention is necessary
Requirements
- Five or more years of professional experience in IT or software fields such as systems administration, network engineering, DevOps, QA engineering, solutions engineering, technical support leadership, or software development
- At least one year of hands-on experience directing AI coding agents like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex to deliver production software
- Two or more years of experience in product ownership or technical product management involving backlog management, specification writing, and prioritization
- Demonstrated ability to verify claims against actual system behavior rather than documentation
- Operational fluency with GitHub, Vercel or similar hosting platforms, and relational databases like Postgres
- Proficiency in clear, concise written English without hidden decisions or hedging
- Ability to use an Apple laptop along with Gmail, Google Docs, Slack, and internal CBT Nuggets software
Qualifications
- Experience with Next.js, React, Prisma, Postgres row-level security, OAuth, or columnar analytics warehouses
- Background in evaluating production AI models for A/B measurement, calibration, and cost analysis
- Demonstrated security and privacy judgment regarding dependency advisories and PII boundaries
- Product marketing or editorial experience tailored to IT Directors or Training Managers
- Prior background in IT training, certification, e-learning, or assessment design
- Experience negotiating integration contracts with external engineering teams
