NPR is seeking a Temporary Information Specialist I to join its Research, Archives and Data Strategy department on a full-time, six-month basis. This role operates within a union-represented environment covered by a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. The individual will support journalists and storytellers through every phase of production, from initial concept to permanent preservation.

The position suits an agile professional who excels under tight deadlines and values accuracy in fast-paced media settings. Responsibilities span deep investigative research, fact-checking, audio file management, metadata curation, and instructional training delivery. Candidates may occasionally be asked to work scheduled weekend hours or handle special assignments.

NPR functions as a prominent multimedia news organization, partnering with local public radio stations nationwide to broadcast award-winning content. Responsibilities

  • Execute thorough research, investigation, and fact-checking to support reporting and storytelling
  • Develop, produce, and maintain metadata to support the comprehensive record of NPR programming
  • Contribute directly to multimedia preservation and access initiatives
  • Deliver training sessions for colleagues
  • Manage assigned special projects and potentially work scheduled weekend hours

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience working within a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities paired with high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in utilizing and deploying information resources and services
  • Ongoing awareness of current events and popular culture
  • Effective written and verbal presentation skills
  • Solid understanding of metadata theory, creation, and curation
  • Prior experience handling audio files
  • Capability to work independently as well as on collaborative group projects
  • Willingness to share current skills with colleagues and rapidly learn new competencies on the job

Qualifications

  • One to three years of professional experience in the information management or archival field
  • An MIS, MLS, or MIM degree obtained from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Prior experience creating and executing training programs both in person and remotely
