Peraton is hiring a remote Test Engineering, Associate (Junior Software Quality Assurance Engineer) to support quality assurance and test automation on the BASIS program. Peraton acts as a national security company and mission capability integrator, providing technology solutions to protect the nation and allies across land, sea, space, air, and cyberspace.
In this role, the associate will work under senior QA guidance to help advance an automation-first QA mandate. Duties involve writing and maintaining automated test scripts for unit, integration, and end-to-end functional testing within Agile sprint cycles. The professional will support Test-Driven Development, track defects in JIRA, manage Requirements Traceability Matrices, and conduct accessibility testing following Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards. Additionally, the position involves stress and load testing in a simulation environment, disaster recovery coordination, and preparing release documentation.
This full-time opportunity suits individuals with foundational knowledge of test automation, Agile methodologies, and defect tracking tools who can obtain a Public Trust clearance. Candidates may qualify through a relevant Bachelor's degree with zero prior experience or via a high school diploma accompanied by four years of software testing or quality assurance experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain automated test scripts for unit, integration, and functional testing aligned with Agile sprints
- Ensure executable automated test cases are delivered by the end of each sprint for the Government-managed DevSecOps pipeline
- Support Test-Driven Development by writing test cases ahead of code development alongside software developers
- Analyze application coverage gaps, automate legacy test cases, and execute non-automated test cases
- Create and maintain Requirements Traceability Matrices at the conclusion of development cycles
- Log all test activities, results, and defects accurately inside the Government Test Case Management System
- Prepare testing reports, release notes, and software version descriptions
- Triage and track defects in JIRA, replicating issues prior to escalating to product teams
- Conduct accessibility testing against WCAG 2.0 Level AA criteria and assist with VPAT preparation
- Support stress, load, and Disaster Recovery testing activities in the ProdSim environment
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, grooming, reviews, and retrospectives
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field with zero years of experience, or a high school diploma with four years of software testing, quality assurance, or test automation experience
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- Foundational understanding of test automation principles
- Experience writing automated test scripts in at least one framework or scripting language such as Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Python, or Java
- Familiarity with Agile or Scrum development practices and DevSecOps principles
- Basic experience utilizing defect tracking software like JIRA
- Understanding of the software testing lifecycle covering unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing
- Familiarity with Test-Driven Development practices
- Attention to detail and ability to document test findings clearly
Qualifications
- ISTQB Foundation Level certification or an equivalent credential
- Exposure to static code analysis or dynamic application security testing tools like Fortify, Sonatype, or BURP
- Experience performing Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 Level AA accessibility evaluations
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated test integration within DevSecOps environments
- Prior background supporting Federal government or DoD IT initiatives
- Exposure to Oracle or PL/SQL database systems
- Familiarity with ServiceNow for incident management
