Job Description
Cloudflare is seeking a Software Engineer to join Cloudforce One, its threat operations and research team. Cloudflare operates a massive global network that accelerates and protects internet properties worldwide, helping to build a safer and faster internet for businesses and organizations of all sizes. In this position, you will develop and scale distributed tools and applications that convert threat intelligence and security tradecraft into automated, evidence-based systems.
This role is ideal for builders who enjoy working in complex problem spaces and leveraging modern engineering tools, including AI-assisted workflows. You will collaborate closely with security professionals to eliminate operational bottlenecks, prioritize technical risks, and deliver actionable guidance to engineering teams. While the primary technologies utilized include Go and TypeScript, the stack also encompasses Rust, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, Terraform, PostgreSQL, and Cloudflare’s own developer platform.
The position requires close partnership across teams, a commitment to writing well-tested and modular code, and the capability to guide other developers. Candidates should be comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and may need to participate in an off-hours on-call rotation to resolve critical issues.
Responsibilities
- Design, construct, operate, and scale distributed tools and services that translate security methodologies into automated workflows.
- Collaborate with security practitioners to identify process bottlenecks and automation opportunities.
- Enhance system design and architecture to maintain the stability, performance, and maintainability of internal and customer-facing services.
- Evaluate, explain, and help prioritize complex technical concepts across multiple teams.
- Mentor fellow developers to build collective technical expertise and encourage coding best practices.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software development experience focusing on large-scale applications and distributed systems.
- Proven experience building production-ready code using Go and/or TypeScript.
- Demonstrated ability to design and integrate RESTful APIs and/or gRPC services.
- Familiarity with SQL and relational database management systems such as PostgreSQL.
- Capacity to independently define and execute solutions within ambiguous problem spaces.
Qualifications
- Understanding of cybersecurity topics including threat modeling, attack vectors, trust boundaries, exploitability, and defensive mechanisms.
- Familiarity with incident response procedures, network containment, and mitigation strategies.
- Practical background in vulnerability research or exploit development and translating findings into actionable fixes.
- Experience with AI-driven development and designing agentic AI workflows.
- Background in application security, security research, or security automation.
- Familiarity with DNS, TLS/SSL, and HTTP protocols, along with probabilistic systems evaluation.
Core Skills
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage along with flexible spending and commuter spending accounts.
- Fertility and family-forming benefits, plus on-demand mental health support and an Employee Assistance Program.
- Short-term and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, and accident insurance.
- Participation in a 401(k) retirement savings plan and an employee stock purchase plan.
- Flexible paid time off for vacation and sick leave, alongside parental, pregnancy health, medical, and bereavement leave programs.
