apricot is hiring a remote Website Designer on a project-based contractor term to build a brand-new Shopify e-commerce platform for a growing Palestinian fashion brand rooted in tatreez. The client's long-term vision is to expand into a fashion house that employs Palestinian makers and hosts tatreez workshops, with current sales processed entirely through Shopify. The new website must cater to two primary audiences simultaneously: shoppers looking to buy physical fashion pieces and digital patterns, and individuals seeking educational content, workshops, and community circles.
In this role, the designer will take existing branding elements including a logo, color kit, photography, and content to develop a polished, accessible online home before the launch of a new collection. The project requires building product pages for fewer than 10 products, setting up digital pattern purchases, creating an events and booking page for workshops, and designing a blog and tatreez pattern library. The layout must feature clear navigation paths and custom theme modifications beyond stock templates using the theme editor, Liquid, HTML, or CSS. Finally, the site must be handed over in a clean and maintainable condition so the non-technical founder can manage future updates independently.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement a full Shopify e-commerce build including shop and checkout for fewer than 10 physical items and digital patterns
- Build an Events page for workshop ticket sales and monthly community circles
- Establish spaces for educational content, a blog, and a tatreez pattern library
- Create distinct navigation paths for customers and learners
- Customize the Shopify theme beyond a stock template through the theme editor, Liquid, HTML, or CSS
- Ensure the website is accessible, simple to navigate, and structured for easy handoff to a non-technical owner
Requirements
- Portfolio demonstrating e-commerce websites built on Shopify
- Experience designing and building sites that combine a store, content pages, and event or education sections
- Shopify theme customization experience using the theme editor, Liquid, HTML, or CSS
- Demonstrated experience building product pages, digital product purchases, a blog, and an events or booking page
- A design approach prioritizing web accessibility
- Availability to begin and complete the work by the end of the year or early January at the latest
