How to Apply for FPSC Jobs Online: Fees, Test and Rules (2026)

To apply for an FPSC job, you fill in the online form at fpsc.gov.pk before the closing date, generate a PSID and pay the fee through 1-Link (Rs 600 for BS-16 and BS-17 posts, up to Rs 3,000 for BS-20 and above). FPSC does not accept hard copies, so your application only counts once the fee is paid online. This guide goes through each step, the age and domicile rules that get applications rejected, and how the MCQ test and interview are marked. Everything here comes from FPSC's General Instructions (updated 12 August 2026) and its official FAQs.
FPSC application: key facts at a glance
Where to apply: online only, at fpsc.gov.pk. FPSC rejects manual applications and hard copies.
Fee: BS-16 and BS-17: Rs 600. BS-18: Rs 1,500. BS-19: Rs 2,500. BS-20 and above: Rs 3,000.
How to pay: against your own PSID through 1-Link, using an ATM, mobile banking (e.g. Easypaisa, JazzCash), internet banking or a 1-Link member bank counter.
Edits: you can edit a submitted application once, up to the closing date.
Cut-off date: your age, qualification and experience are all counted up to the advertisement's closing date.
Written test: MCQs, with 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer.
Interview: out of 200 marks. You need 101 to qualify for BS-16 and BS-17 posts.
Step-by-step: how to apply for FPSC jobs online
Find the advertisement on the official site. FPSC releases posts in consolidated advertisements. For example, Consolidated Advertisement Phase-3/2026 offered 524 posts and closed on 31 August 2026. Open the current advertisement on fpsc.gov.pk and note the case number, BPS, quota, age limit and closing date for the post you want.
Check that you are eligible on the closing date. Your degree result must have been officially announced on or before the closing date. Experience only counts if you gained it after that qualification and it was regular, full-time and paid.
Fill in the online form carefully. Enter every qualification and every period of experience you want considered. FPSC treats experience left out of the form as an "afterthought" and will not accept it later.
Generate your PSID and pay the fee. The portal gives you a unique PSID, which you pay through 1-Link before the closing date. FPSC does not accept old TR-6 challans, bank drafts, pay orders or cheques. The fee goes to the National Treasury, not to FPSC.
Check your application and use your one edit wisely. If you spot a mistake, correct it before the closing date. You only get one edit.
Government employees: get permission first. Get departmental permission (DPC/NOC) before you apply, and enter its reference number and date in the form. If you don't, your application can be cancelled and you will not get an Admission Certificate.
Watch for your Admission Certificate. FPSC posts it on its website and sends an SMS or email. Nothing comes by post. Bring the certificate and your original CNIC or passport to the test hall.
You can apply for more than one post, as long as you meet the eligibility conditions for each. Each application needs its own fee. The exception is Assistant Private Secretary posts in the same advertisement: one application and one fee cover all of them.
FPSC age limit and age relaxation
FPSC calculates your age up to the closing date, using your Matric or O-Level certificate. You can claim only one of the category relaxations below, and you must attach proof of it with your application:
Government servants with 2 years of continuous service (including contract employees): up to 10 years, to a maximum age of 55. Employees of nationalised banks, SBP, WAPDA and other autonomous bodies do not qualify.
Retired or released Armed Forces personnel: 15 years, or the number of years served, whichever is less.
Widow, son or daughter of a federal civil servant who died in service: 5 years.
Scheduled castes, the Buddhist community, recognised tribes, and residents of AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan: 3 years, with a certificate from the DC or Political Agent.
General relaxation: 5 years, which FPSC allows on top of one of the above.
Domicile and quota rules that catch candidates out
Quota posts go by your own domicile. FPSC does not accept a domicile issued in your father's or husband's name.
Once FPSC has accepted your domicile for an exam, you cannot change it later.
Merit-quota posts are open to every applicant, whatever their domicile or gender.
Sindh (Urban) means only the city areas of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
If your domicile is not ready yet, see our guide to getting a domicile certificate for government jobs.
FPSC test pattern and passing marks
All FPSC screening tests are MCQ-based, and every wrong answer costs 0.25 marks. If you are unsure, leaving a question blank is often safer than guessing.
BS-16 and BS-17: one paper of 100 marks in 100 minutes. You need 40% to pass.
BS-18 and BS-19: 200 marks in 200 minutes, with 40% needed in each part. For most posts, Part I covers English (20%) plus a general or job-related section (30%), and Part II is the professional subject (50%). Doctors take core MBBS (50%) and their specialisation (50%).
BS-20 and BS-21: 200 marks, with 50% needed in each part.
Tests are held at the same time in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Gujranwala, Karachi, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Peshawar, D.I. Khan, Quetta, Gilgit and Skardu. To request a different centre, apply within 10 days of the closing date.
Shortlisting, interview and final merit
Shortlisting: for BS-16 and BS-17, FPSC usually calls 3 to 5 candidates per post for document verification, depending on how many posts there are. For BS-18 and BS-19, it calls 5 per post.
Documents to bring: originals and two sets of attested photocopies of your academic certificates and transcripts, CNIC, two photographs, experience certificates, self-domicile certificate and, if you are a government servant, the original departmental permission certificate.
Interview qualifying marks (out of 200): 101 for BS-16 and BS-17, 111 for BS-18, 121 for BS-19, 131 for BS-20 and 141 for BS-21 and BS-22.
Final merit: your test and interview marks combined. Ties go to the candidate with higher interview marks, then to the older candidate.

Avoid fake FPSC adverts and paid "agents"
FPSC's only application channel is its own website. You pay the fee yourself, against your own PSID, into the government treasury. Anyone who offers to "guarantee" selection, sell test papers or collect your fee through a personal account is not part of the process. Ignore them, and report fake adverts to FPSC (fpsc@fpsc.gov.pk, 051-111-000-248). FPSC's own rules carry serious penalties for candidates too. Using a phone in the hall, impersonation or forged certificates can get you disqualified, debarred from future FPSC exams, and your CNIC blacklisted.
