INEC Ad Hoc Staff Recruitment 2027: Who Can Apply and How

Quick answer: INEC is recruiting ad hoc election staff for the 2027 General Election through its official INECPRES portal at pres.inecnigeria.org. The portal opened on Friday, 18 September 2026 and closes on Wednesday, 18 November 2026 at 12 midnight. Ad hoc positions and who qualifies
INEC's eligibility notice ties each position to a "source institution". You can only apply for a role that matches your current status, and returning applicants from past elections must register under the category that applies to them now.
Presiding Officer (PO) and Assistant Presiding Officer (APO I, II, III)
These are the officials who run individual polling units on election day. They are the largest group INEC recruits. You may qualify if you are:
A serving NYSC corps member;
A former corps member who passed out no earlier than three years before the election (that is, 2024, 2025 or 2026);
A student of a federal or state tertiary institution in your penultimate year, or in year two or three of study (the portal also asks students to have IT knowledge);
Permanent staff of a federal or state ministry, department or agency (MDA) with an OND or NCE on the grade levels INEC specifies (GL 07–10 for some PO/APO slots and GL 07–14 for others);
INEC permanent staff on GL 07 and 08 (per the portal).
Supervisory Presiding Officer (SPO)
SPOs oversee a cluster of polling units. The role is open to federal and state civil servants on Grade Level 10–14, with priority for qualified staff of INEC, NYSC, NOA, NIMC and NPC. Registration Area Officers and other INEC staff on GL 10–14 who are not assigned other duties can also apply.
Registration Area Centre (RAC) Manager
RAC Managers handle the centres where materials and staff are assembled before deployment. Applicants must be the head of the school or institution hosting the RAC (or Super RAC), or a staff member there on GL 07 and above.
Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH)
RATECHs provide technical support for election technology. Applicants need an IT background. INEC lists suitable ICT staff of the Commission not engaged in other duties, and IT-related students of federal and state tertiary institutions, among the sources for this role. RATECH is the only category not required to reside in the state selected.
Conditions every applicant must meet
You must not be a member of any political party.
You must not have shown or expressed support for any candidate or party (this includes social media activity).
You must live in the state you select on the portal, except RATECH applicants.
You must apply only for a position your current status qualifies you for.
Breaking these rules can get your application rejected or your engagement withdrawn. Treat neutrality as part of the job, not a formality.
What to prepare before you apply
Have these ready so you can finish the form in one sitting:
A working email address you check often (the portal starts with email verification);
An active phone number;
A recent passport photograph in digital form;
Your NYSC details (state code or discharge certificate), student ID, or staff ID and grade level, depending on your category;
Details of a personal bank account in your own name, in case the form asks for them;
Your educational qualifications.
How to apply on the INECPRES portal: step by step
Go to pres.inecnigeria.org on a laptop or desktop, or download the INECPRES app only from the link on INEC's official recruitment page.
Click Register and read the instructions and eligibility criteria.
Select the position you are applying for (APO, PO, RAC Manager, RATECH or SPO), then choose your eligibility category.
Enter and confirm your email address, complete the security code and submit.
Follow the link or code sent to your email to continue, then fill in your personal, location, education and employment details.
Upload your photograph and any requested documents, review every entry and submit.
Save or screenshot your login details and confirmation. You will need them to check your status and, if selected, for training information.
Apply early. Portals for national exercises tend to slow down in the final week, and INEC has said the deadline is 12 midnight on 18 November 2026.
Is the INEC ad hoc job paid?
Ad hoc election staff are engaged on a paid, temporary basis. However, INEC's 2027 public notice does not state the amounts, and we have not found an official figure for this election. Ignore any website or WhatsApp message quoting a "confirmed" rate unless it links to an INEC statement. Avoid recruitment scams
Large recruitment drives attract fraudsters. Protect yourself:
Apply only through pres.inecnigeria.org or the app link published on inecnigeria.org.
INEC's notice mentions no application fee. Do not pay anyone who promises to "secure" a slot, speed up selection or post you to a preferred unit.
Never send your bank login, card PIN or OTP to anyone. INEC does not need them.
Confirm any update, such as shortlists or training dates, on INEC's official website or verified social media handles before acting on it.
Tips to improve your chances
Pick the right category. A mismatch between your status and the role is the quickest route to rejection.
Use accurate, consistent details. Your name, bank account name and ID should match.
Choose a location you can actually reach. Deployment is local, and you must reside in the state you select.
