KMTC Jobs 2026: 678 Vacancies, Grades and How to Apply by 30 Oct

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is recruiting for 678 positions across its headquarters and campuses, and applications close on Friday, 30 October 2026. Most of the posts are Lecturer II roles in nursing, clinical medicine and allied health, but the notice also covers registered nurses, clinical officers, technologists, records and office staff, ICT, legal and HR. Applications are accepted online only, through the college's recruitment portal at recruit.kmtc.ac.ke/jobs, and there is no application fee.
This guide breaks down what KMTC is hiring for, which job grades the roles sit on, the documents and clearances you need, how to apply step by step, and how to avoid the fake "KMTC recruitment" adverts that follow every large government hiring round.
What is KMTC hiring for in October 2026?
KMTC is a state corporation under the Ministry of Health that trains the bulk of Kenya's mid-level health workforce: nurses, clinical officers, laboratory technologists, radiographers and many other cadres. The October 2026 notice, dated 5 October, is the college's largest recruitment of the year and dwarfs the 89-post round it advertised in September.
The 678 vacancies fall into three broad groups.
Teaching posts (the majority)
More than 470 of the vacancies are Lecturer II positions on job grade KMTC 8, spread across the college's training departments. The largest lines are:
Lecturer II (Nursing) – 200 posts
Lecturer II (Clinical Medicine) – 105 posts
Lecturer II (Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine) – 20 posts
Lecturer II (Community Health) – 20 posts
Lecturer II (Health Records and Information Technology) – 20 posts
Lecturer II (Radiography and Imaging) – 20 posts
Lecturer II (Occupational Therapy) – 15 posts
Lecturer II (Nutrition) – 15 posts
Lecturer II (Physiotherapy) – 15 posts
Lecturer II (Medical Engineering) – 12 posts
Lecturer II (Community Oral Health) – 10 posts
Five posts each in Emergency Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Public Health Sciences and Optometry
There are also five Senior Lecturer posts on grade KMTC 6 and ten Librarian II posts on KMTC 8.
Clinical and technical posts
A smaller block of roles sits on grade KMTC 9 and is aimed at practising health workers rather than teachers:
Registered Nurse III – 10 posts
Registered Clinical Officer III – 5 posts
Pharmaceutical Technologist III – 5 posts
Orthopaedic Trauma Assistant III – 5 posts
Medical Engineering Technologist III – 5 posts
Medical Laboratory Technologist III – 5 posts
Assistant Radiographer III – 5 posts
Physiotherapy Assistant III – 4 posts
Orthopaedic Technologist III – 2 posts
Occupational Therapy Assistant III – 1 post
Administrative and support posts
Roughly 140 vacancies are non-clinical, which makes this round unusually open to graduates and diploma holders outside the health professions:
Assistant Office Administrator III – 20 posts (KMTC 9)
Records Management Assistant III – 20 posts (KMTC 9)
Administrative Officer II – 15 posts (KMTC 8)
Office Administrator II – 10 posts (KMTC 8)
Supply Chain Management Officer II – 10 posts (KMTC 8)
Assistant Housekeeper III – 10 posts and Housekeeper II – 5 posts
Human Resource Management Assistant III – 8 posts
Records Management Officer II – 5 posts
Corporate Communication Officer II – 4 posts
ICT, maintenance, security and planning roles – 2 to 3 posts each
Senior roles: Assistant Director, Human Resource Management (2, KMTC 4); Principal Legal Officer (1, KMTC 5); Senior Assistant Director, ICT (1, KMTC 3)
The portal lists 46 distinct positions in total. Each carries its own reference number in the format KMTC/QP-12/EAF/xx/2026, and you must quote the right reference for the post you want.
What do the KMTC job grades mean?
KMTC uses its own grading structure, where a lower number means a more senior post. In this notice, KMTC 3 to KMTC 5 are director and principal-officer level, KMTC 6 is Senior Lecturer, KMTC 8 covers Lecturer II and Officer II entry-professional roles, and KMTC 9 covers the "III"-level technologist, assistant and nurse posts, which are the usual entry point for diploma holders.
The college has not published salary figures for these grades in the advertisement, and we will not guess at them. Pay for each grade is set by KMTC's approved salary structure and will be stated in the offer letter. Treat any website quoting exact "KMTC lecturer salary" figures for this round with caution unless it links to an official KMTC document.
Who can apply?
Each position has its own academic, professional-registration and experience requirements, which are set out in the job descriptions on the recruitment portal. The published notice does not reproduce them, so open the specific job on the portal and read the requirements before you start. In general terms:
Lecturer II posts are aimed at qualified health professionals in the named discipline who hold current registration with their professional regulator (for example the Nursing Council of Kenya or the Clinical Officers Council) and the academic qualification the job description specifies.
The "III"-level clinical posts are for registered practitioners at the start of their careers.
Administrative posts ask for the relevant diploma or degree and, for Officer II roles, usually some experience.
KMTC describes itself as an equal-opportunity employer and specifically encourages applications from youth, women, persons with disabilities and minority groups who meet the requirements.
How to apply for KMTC jobs 2026: step by step
Go to the official portal. Applications are accepted only through the KMTC recruitment portal at recruit.kmtc.ac.ke/jobs. Hard-copy and emailed applications will not be considered.
Create an account with your national ID number, full name and a working email address, then verify it.
Pick the exact position and note its reference number. If you qualify for more than one role, check the portal rules on multiple applications before submitting.
Complete your profile accurately. Enter your academic and professional qualifications, registration and licence details, work history and referees. Giving false information is an offence and leads to disqualification.
Attach only certificates you already hold. KMTC states that applicants should not include any certificate they will not have obtained by the closing date.
Submit before Friday, 30 October 2026. The notice gives the closing date without a time, so do not leave it to the last evening. Portals slow down as deadlines approach.
Wait to be contacted. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Any form of canvassing, meaning lobbying board members or staff, leads to automatic disqualification.
Documents and clearances you will need
At the application stage you need your ID, certificates and transcripts. If you are shortlisted, you must bring the originals of your national ID card, academic and professional certificates and transcripts to the interview.
Successful candidates must then produce the standard Chapter Six clearances before an offer letter is issued:
Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) tax compliance certificate
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) self-declaration clearance
Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) clearance (compliance certificate if you took a loan, or a clearance letter if you did not)
Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) clearance
Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
You do not need these to submit your application, but several of them take weeks to process, so if you are a serious candidate it is worth starting the KRA, HELB and DCI applications now rather than after the interview.
How to spot fake KMTC recruitment adverts
Large public-sector recruitments in Kenya are routinely copied by scammers. Keep these checks in mind:
The only application route is recruit.kmtc.ac.ke. Any other website, WhatsApp group or Facebook page "collecting applications" for KMTC is not official.
There is no fee for applying, being shortlisted, interviewing or receiving an offer. Anyone asking for money to "process", "fast-track" or "guarantee" a position is a fraudster.
KMTC will not ask you to send documents to a personal Gmail or WhatsApp number. Its official communication comes from the college's own channels.
Be wary of posts that quote a precise salary for these roles. KMTC has published grades, not pay figures.
Presenting fake certificates is a criminal offence, and the college verifies documents against the originals at interview.
What this round means for health-training careers in Kenya
Two hundred nursing lecturer posts and 105 clinical medicine lecturer posts in one notice is a significant expansion of KMTC's teaching capacity, and it opens a realistic route for experienced nurses and clinical officers to move from service delivery into training. The administrative lines, particularly the 40 records and office-administration assistant posts, are also among the more accessible public-sector openings for diploma holders this quarter.
