Job Description
Canonical is hiring a support engineer for cloud customers who run Ubuntu and other open source products. The post is globally remote and full-time. It is mainly a relationship role: the engineer acts as a trusted technical guide to customer engineering teams and turns difficult open source problems into clear, practical guidance.
Daily work covers sessions, tickets and live conversations aimed at understanding and resolving technical blockers. The engineer owns each case from beginning to end, passes it to colleagues or senior engineers when needed, and keeps customers updated on likely fix timelines. The job involves close collaboration with the company's engineers and regional peers, explaining the Ubuntu development lifecycle to customers, and writing and maintaining knowledge base articles so lessons learned are shared. A regular weekend rotation keeps support continuous for global partners.
Applicants should write and speak excellent English and explain technical detail warmly and clearly. Emotional intelligence and composure in tense situations matter. Hands-on experience running Linux systems is required, along with exposure to at least three areas: virtualisation and cloud such as KVM or OpenStack, containers such as Docker, LXD, LXC or Kubernetes, plus storage and system networking. A methodical approach to logs and stack traces is expected, and a first degree in a technical discipline, or a credible alternative path, is part of the requirements.
