Job Description
Canonical is hiring a manager for its embedded Linux field engineering work, leading a regional group of field engineers in the Americas. The position is full-time and remote. The manager must reside in one of three regions, Americas, EMEA or APAC, because the team covers only a few time zones. The group works on pre-sales and professional services, guiding customers through solution architecture, design and delivery.
The company's embedded goal is to help organisations run fleets of securely connected devices. Ubuntu Core, along with long-term support and secure update tooling, underpins that work. Customers build demanding control systems, gateways and appliances, and Canonical wants to extend this level of security to consumer electronics.
The manager leads and develops engineers at every level from graduate to senior, sets goals and drives progress, works with the leadership group, champions engineering standards, and provides coaching and career feedback. The manager also speaks for the team to partners, stakeholders and customers, measures team health, and relays market insight to product and engineering. The listing expects strong Linux knowledge, including Yocto and Debian or Ubuntu experience, the ability to lead a small team, and experience working with customers. Travel is part of the job, usually twice a year for events that can run up to two weeks. Experience with real-time operating systems, other languages, and remote-first distributed organisations is welcome.
