Operating within the Engineering organization and reporting to the Head of IT and Enterprise Security, this remote-eligible position oversees three core areas: IT Support, IT Logistics, and AV & Executive Support.
This role suits an experienced technology leader who can guide a total team of approximately 20 personnel through three direct-report managers. The incoming director will set the operational strategy and vision while helping the department evolve into a proactive, innovation-focused group. Key responsibilities include modernizing enterprise assistance through AI-powered interfaces like Claude, streamlining hardware logistics for international expansion, and collaborating cross-functionally with executive leadership, facilities, and security teams.
Instacart functions under a Flex First working model, which permits staff members to choose their preferred work environment—whether working from home, an office, or another location—while maintaining connection through regular in-person gatherings.
Responsibilities
- Manage the IT Operations organization across three functional teams via three direct-report managers
- Establish the strategic vision and operating model for IT support, logistics, and AV services
- Deploy next-generation IT support utilizing AI-powered interfaces to reduce friction and resolution times
- Oversee international IT logistics and hardware provisioning as the company expands outside North America
- Partner with Executive Leadership, Workplace & Facilities, and Enterprise Security on corporate security standards
- Drive at least one industry-leading innovation initiative per year focused on end-user onboarding and support tooling
Requirements
- Proven track record of leading a large, multi-disciplinary IT operations team covering support, logistics, and AV or executive support at a mid-to-large technology company
- Experience managing teams of 20 or more people across multiple IT functions with direct oversight of managers
- Budget ownership and financial accountability for IT budgets of $5M or more, including hardware, licensing, and vendor spend
- Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and innovation
- Authentic and transparent leadership style with experience building trust-based relationships up to the C-suite level
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Corporate Engineering tooling such as Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, and Risotto
- Experience leading IT operations through a significant company transition such as an IPO, rapid headcount growth, M&A, or international expansion
- Hands-on experience integrating AI or automation tools into IT service delivery and end-user support workflows
