Moxie is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead its largest internal organization, consisting of approximately sixty engineers. Operating remotely as a global team, Moxie provides software and support to help independent aesthetic entrepreneurs establish and scale profitable practices. In this role, you will serve as the primary leader of the engineering department, driving daily execution, talent management, staffing strategy, and technical operating procedures. You will partner directly with product leadership and the Head of Engineering, inheriting a fast-moving team at a critical growth phase. The position blends organizational leadership with hands-on technical guidance, requiring you to oversee delivery predictability, refine performance metrics, and lead the integration of artificial intelligence and agentic systems across both the core product and the software development lifecycle. This opportunity suits an experienced technical leader with a background in managing multiple engineering managers, scaling teams, and embedding AI-driven development into production environments. Responsibilities
- Assume full day-to-day leadership of Moxie's engineering organization and become the primary escalation point for cross-team delivery and execution
- Oversee all seven engineering managers within three months and manage end-to-end delivery independently by month six
- Refine and build upon existing engineering performance measures, including Linear, DORA, and reliability metrics, to implement concrete operating improvements
- Assess current artificial intelligence usage across the software development lifecycle and product offerings during the first quarter
- Drive at least one AI or agentic initiative into production use by month six and embed AI-assisted development into the operating model by month nine
- Set an opinionated technical roadmap that allocates engineering capacity across product delivery, architecture, technical debt, platform investment, and developer productivity
- Partner closely with product leadership to surface dependencies, risks, and trade-offs early in the operating cadence
Requirements
- Possess 12 or more years of software engineering experience
- Bring at least 5 years of engineering leadership experience
- Demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of experience leading engineering managers and technical leaders
- Have direct experience managing a 30 to 60 person engineering organization through multiple engineering managers
- Bring proven experience building production artificial intelligence and agentic systems with established standards for observability, evaluations, cost, and security
- Show expertise in building KPI systems like DORA and cycle time metrics that teams use to alter behavior
- Demonstrate strong technical judgment regarding system design, software design patterns, agile processes, and SRE or DevOps principles
Qualifications
- Experience working at a Series B, Series C, or Series D product company
- Prior background in health tech or vertical SaaS industries
