The incoming director will initially balance hands-on programming, code reviews, and pairing with team leadership, gradually moving toward a larger management focus as the enterprise expands. Responsibilities
- Direct and grow multiple product engineering squads handling reporting, visibility, scheduling, and elementary school tools
- Engage initially in hands-on coding, code reviews, and pair programming before transitioning to a primary focus on leadership
- Drive architectural choices that ensure platform scalability and support teams through technical transitions
- Collaborate with product and cross-functional groups to align engineering goals with business outcomes
- Release valuable product features, including AI-driven capabilities
Requirements
- At least 3 years of engineering management experience, encompassing the oversight of multiple teams and other managers
- Demonstrated history of scaling technical organizations and taking ownership of business goals, quality, retention, growth, and delivery speed
- Proficiency in backend design and architecture, evaluating technical trade-offs while remaining capable of writing and reviewing code
- Working knowledge of Python or TypeScript, MongoDB, and AWS
- Commitment to education-focused work with background experience in K-12 edtech or similar teaching and learning sectors
- Clear communication abilities suited for a fast-paced environment
- Availability to travel for business needs and occasional company retreats
