Job Description
Tekmetric, a provider of cloud-based management software for auto repair shops established in Houston in 2017, is seeking a Director of IT to lead its technical infrastructure and operations. The person in this role will report directly to the VP of Business Systems & AI.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity suited for an experienced professional who enjoys both managing a small team and actively contributing to technical projects. The work centers on building scalable systems, expanding automation to enable self-service, administering critical enterprise platforms, and collaborating closely with security teams. Responsibilities
- Manage the IT department end-to-end, covering endpoints, identity management, SaaS applications, office infrastructure, technical support, and security
- Lead a small technical team while setting priorities, standards, and technical direction
- Expand automation initiatives to eliminate manual tasks and drive self-service capabilities
- Administer core technical stacks including Google Workspace, Slack, single sign-on, provisioning protocols, multi-factor authentication, and mobile device management
- Collaborate with security personnel on endpoint protection, least privilege access, patching, vulnerability management, and incident response
- Oversee physical office technology across company locations, encompassing networking, audio-visual setups, conference room tech, and physical security
- Build scalable IT processes and operational controls that support company growth
- Handle departmental budget operations and track budget metrics against actual expenditures
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience taking ownership of and scaling IT functions within fast-paced technical organizations
- Practical leadership background capable of setting strategic direction while serving as a hands-on technical contributor
- Extensive experience working with macOS environments, mobile device management, Google Workspace, identity providers, and SaaS platforms
- Proficiency in utilizing automation tools, APIs, AI technologies, and Bash or Python scripting to remove manual workflows
- Substantial security background spanning endpoints, identity governance, access controls, vulnerability management, and incident handling
- Willingness to travel for scheduled company and team offsite gatherings
