Job Description
Mural is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Compose team to lead the development of its AI-native product as it transitions from early access to widespread daily usage. This remote-first role involves guiding a group of full-stack engineers while staying directly involved in architectural choices, code reviews, and technical standards. The position suits a hands-on leader who can balance rapid experimentation with system reliability, shape product roadmaps alongside design and product partners, and foster a supportive, high-performing team environment.
The role requires driving end-to-end delivery using fast feedback loops, measuring performance data, and enhancing engineering practices related to testing, observability, and AI-assisted creation. The technology stack features React, Node, MongoDB, and Azure OpenAI. Qualified candidates will bring a strong background in software engineering and direct management experience within a remote work model.

- Oversee end-to-end delivery by releasing features to actual users early, analyzing usage data, and iterating rapidly
- Collaborate with Product and Design peers to shape the Compose product roadmap based on user feedback and metrics
- Improve technical standards around testing, observability, and AI-assisted development
- Participate directly in technical work by reviewing pull requests and contributing to architecture choices
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of direct experience managing software engineers, including hiring and performance management
- At least five years of background as a software engineer building production applications, with hands-on technical work in the past three to four years
- Technical capability to lead architectural discussions and review code credibly
- Experience guiding a team that has deployed LLM-powered features to production
- Familiarity with building AI agents, knowledge graphs, retrieval systems, or the Model Context Protocol
