Job Description
Roboflow is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to help new clients implement computer vision workflows into real-world production environments. In this position, you will bridge the gap between pre-sales solutions and operational reality by guiding deployments through the critical 0-to-1 phase. Operating as the primary technical contact on-site or deeply embedded with client engineering teams, you will tackle hardware constraints, data pipeline setups, and edge device configuration. This role is built for hands-on builders with a high-autonomy mindset who enjoy navigating physical-world environments and solving complex technical roadblocks. You will also serve as a vital feedback channel, relaying field insights directly back to the internal product and engineering groups to shape upcoming platform releases. Roboflow operates distributed across the United States and Europe, offering hubs in New York City, San Francisco, and São Paulo alongside remote flexibility. The position requires approximately 40 to 50 percent travel for customer-site engagements, usually lasting four to twelve weeks each.
Responsibilities
- Take validated pre-sale proofs-of-concept and turn them into initial production deployments
- Configure edge computing hardware, set up data pipelines, optimize models, and integrate with customer infrastructure
- Embed directly on-site or closely with client engineering and operations teams for initial implementation phases lasting four to twelve weeks
- Write production-grade code that operates reliably despite lighting variability, camera calibration issues, network latency, and hardware constraints
- Gather field observations regarding customer requirements and relay feedback directly to product and engineering teams
- Document deployment architectures, build operational runbooks, and train client staff for independent system maintenance before handing off to implementation engineers
- Identify and resolve technical risks early to prevent project failure
- Establish repeatable deployment patterns, starter templates, and reusable artifacts
Requirements
- Meaningful professional background deploying technology within physical-world operational environments
- Strong working proficiency in Python
- Hands-on experience deploying machine learning or computer vision models into production
- Familiarity with edge computing hardware constraints, industrial cameras, on-premise security requirements, and limited connectivity
- Willingness to travel 40 to 50 percent of the time for customer-facing deployment engagements
Qualifications
- Experience with systems-level operations including Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, and networking
- Background working in target verticals such as manufacturing, logistics, food processing, automotive, or retail
- Prior history in professional services, deployment engineering, or forward deployed engineering functions
- Familiarity with computer vision and MLOps tooling and practices covering model versioning, monitoring, and retraining pipelines
- Industrial subject matter expertise or background in IoT, embedded systems, and infrastructure engineering
