Job Description
GitLab operates an intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, helping organizations boost developer productivity, enhance operational efficiency, and lower security risk. More than half of Fortune 100 companies and over 50 million registered users rely on the platform to ship secure software rapidly. The organization functions as a fully remote entity, encouraging staff members to incorporate artificial intelligence into daily routines.
As a Fullstack Engineer focusing on the Duo Client SDK within the AI Clients stage, you will help establish the shared foundation for all GitLab Duo clients. This work involves extracting logic from the GitLab Language Server into versioned TypeScript packages usable by editor extensions, web-based chat interfaces, and future external applications. You will operate across both frontend and backend systems, designing a robust Node.js core, public application programming interfaces, and client surfaces.
This position suits a developer who prioritizes clean interfaces, semantic versioning, and backward compatibility. Working alongside senior and staff team members, you will independently build scoped packages, manage public APIs, and handle cross-host credential management while collaborating on broader architectural adjustments.
Responsibilities
- Develop secure, performant, and well-tested TypeScript capabilities addressing moderate technical complexity.
- Ship compact features and enhancements independently while submitting tests for every merge request.
- Extract and publish TypeScript packages out of the GitLab Language Server while migrating consumers incrementally.
- Design public application programming interfaces featuring semantic versioning, clear interfaces, and deprecation paths.
- Construct isomorphic core packages that isolate platform-specific behavior through edge adapters.
- Build and refine software development kit client surfaces, including Vue 3 components for Duo Chat on the web.
- Enhance credential processing across different hosts, encompassing bearer tokens, session cookies, and cross-site request forgery defense.
- Manage optimization for bundle size, startup expenses, and dependency weight for browser-based consumers.
- Participate in a Tier 2 on-call rotation to address urgent engineering inquiries.
Requirements
- Demonstrate strong proficiency with TypeScript across backend and frontend environments, including building Node.js services.
- Bring familiarity with modern packaging and build tools such as monorepos, ECMAScript modules, and dependency management.
- Possess an understanding of runtime differences between browsers and Node.js.
- Maintain a security-focused development approach with attention to performance optimization and credential management.
- Communicate technical challenges clearly in writing and adapt to an agile, fully remote work environment.
Qualifications
- Gain experience using Vue 3 and the Composition API, or show comparable component-based frontend background with a readiness to learn Vue.
