Job Description
Customer.io operates a messaging platform utilized by over nine thousand organizations to deliver billions of emails, text messages, in-app notices, and push notifications daily via behavioral data. The marketing operations department seeks a GTM AI Engineer to transition existing AI agent prototypes into stable, production-ready systems utilized by go-to-market teams. Currently, the team maintains eleven operational agents serving over one hundred twenty active users through a high volume of daily tool calls. This position focuses on establishing the scalability, stability, and observability layers of the agent infrastructure so agent creators can continue building new prototypes.
This opportunity fits engineering professionals who value craft and robustness over quick fixes, possess distinct technical opinions, adapt quickly to mistakes, and operate in an AI-native manner by leveraging tools like Claude for code generation and quality assurance rather than manual coding. The selected individual will own the GCP infrastructure, manage database integrations, construct evaluation metrics, and ensure dependable daily operations for the entire agent fleet.

- Upgrade initial agent prototypes into clean, production-grade codebases with robust evaluation metrics and reliable prompt definitions
- Set up and maintain monitoring, tracing, and logging across the agent fleet to detect regressions early
- Manage deployment pipelines on a Google Cloud Platform stack to guarantee environment consistency and release hygiene
- Oversee how agents safely read from and write to databases at scale
- Monitor active agent behavior, resolve production issues, and continuously ship performance improvements
- Collaborate closely with internal agent builders to support their zero-to-one development work
- Critique existing implementations and introduce well-reasoned architectural improvements
Requirements
- At least four years of professional software, platform, or infrastructure engineering experience
- Familiarity with B2B SaaS corporate environments
- Daily experience utilizing the terminal and standard GitHub pull request and deployment workflows
- Cloud hosting proficiency with Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, virtual machines, or equivalent technologies
- Hands-on experience with database administration and managing database interactions for automated agents
- Working knowledge of LLM application development concepts including prompt engineering, tool calling, evaluations, and agent frameworks
- Ability to direct AI models to write, review, and evaluate their own code
