Job Description
Angkas runs a ride-hailing platform across the Philippines, reporting more than eight million downloads and a network of thousands of motorbike partners. Its stated mission is to reduce poverty in the Philippines through transport. It is seeking a Head of Engineering to oversee the teams behind its rider app, driver app, backend platforms and operations tools, and to lead a shift toward AI-first engineering. The listing is marked remote, while the posting says onsite, remote and hybrid arrangements are all possible.
The leader keeps critical services dependable, designing for high availability and proving failover and disaster recovery for essential flows. During incidents, they take charge, coordinate engineering, site reliability and operations, run post-incident reviews, and install preventive measures. The position grows the organization through hiring and development, shapes scope with Product, builds reusable platforms, reviews architecture for scale, security and cost before it goes to the CTO, and sets delivery and reliability measures that reveal bottlenecks. The leader also champions AI tools that cut toil from building, reviewing, shipping and operating software.
Applicants need 12-plus years in software engineering, with at least three years leading several engineering teams, including accountability for objectives, people management, recruiting and rescuing delayed delivery. Background running engineering for a well-established customer app with a sizable user population is expected, along with leading incident response on heavily used real-time systems. The posting also looks for SRE-minded thinking, secure development habits, attention to cloud spending, and skill with Redis, Kafka, GCP, Kubernetes and database systems.

- Grow the engineering group through hiring, career paths and skill-building
- Partner with Product to refine scope and deliver reusable platforms
- Review architecture and designs for scale, security and spend before they go to the CTO
- Set delivery and reliability metrics, and remove whatever slows engineers
- Lead the adoption of AI across engineering and track measurable improvements in speed, quality and health
Requirements
- 12-plus years in software engineering with three-plus years running several teams
- Real accountability for OKRs, performance management, hiring and recovering stalled delivery
- Experience leading engineering for a consumer product of established scale

- SRE outlook: service objectives, error budgets, blameless reviews and automation
- Secure development habits, plus cost awareness in technical decisions
- Able to explain complex systems to engineers, peers and executives
Qualifications
- Skill with Redis, Kafka, GCP, Kubernetes and databases
- Track record of pushing AI adoption across an organization
