Hootsuite is hiring an Intermediate Software Developer, Backend to join a dedicated group focused on managing a segment of the production application environment and improving developer workflows. In this hybrid position based in Bucharest, Romania, the chosen professional will execute defined projects to help the engineering organization deliver efficient and safe value to clients. The position suits an individual who possesses a growth mindset, enjoys solving complex distributed systems challenges, and communicates clearly within a collaborative environment.
Daily duties involve writing code for automation, tools, services, and libraries, along with constructing and maintaining infrastructure platforms. The practitioner will troubleshoot distributed systems, perform system upgrades, execute migrations, and eliminate repetitive operational tasks. Additional responsibilities include providing executable infrastructure interfaces, supporting the complete software development lifecycle with best practices, participating in an on-call rotation, and demonstrating work during team meetings and demos.
Hootsuite applies artificial intelligence tools to assist with screening, evaluating applicants, and summarizing interview notes during the recruitment process, though all hiring choices remain the responsibility of human decision-makers. Responsibilities
- Develop software including services, tools, libraries, and automation
- Design, build, and implement infrastructure platform features
- Research, evaluate, refactor, rewrite, or retire platform features
- Operate production application environments and developer experience tools
- Diagnose, repair, upgrade, and migrate distributed systems
- Reduce routine tasks, alert noise, and business-as-usual overhead
- Deliver executable interfaces and best practices for development teams
- Take part in a flexible on-call rotation
- Write documentation, attend meetings, and showcase work at demos
Requirements
- Write software with a working knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts and the Java language
- Demonstrate experience in creating stable, reliable, performant, and maintainable code
- Familiarity with schema design and data modeling
- Knowledge of algorithms and data structures
- Exhibit open communication, listening skills, and clarity in writing and speech
- Collaborate effectively to prioritize group goals over individual needs
- Commit to continuous self-development and problem-solving using a logical root-cause approach

Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience in a software engineering role
- Working knowledge of Linux systems administration, including networking from layers 3 to 7, basic monitoring, and system-level troubleshooting
- Experience building, operating, and maintaining cloud infrastructure
- Understanding of SaaS development practices and prior experience working on SaaS products
