Job Description
SGS is seeking a Junior Application and SQL Developer to support the maintenance, enhancement, and daily operation of internally developed software applications. This on-site role involves database programming, writing SQL queries, scripting, and delivering data extraction, processing, and reporting solutions. The selected candidate will also contribute to Computer System Validation activities to ensure compliance with GxP and data integrity requirements.
The position requires troubleshooting application and data issues, performing data quality checks, and maintaining technical documentation while adhering to change and version control practices. Ideal candidates possess strong problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities, and the capacity to work autonomously in a regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Support maintenance, enhancement, and daily operation of internal applications through SQL queries, database programming, and scripting
- Deliver data extraction, processing, and reporting solutions based on requirements
- Write, test, and optimize SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and functions
- Develop and maintain Perl or similar scripts for data processing, automation, and data imports/exports
- Investigate and resolve application and data issues reported by users while documenting root causes and corrective actions
- Perform data quality checks, reconciliations, data corrections, and migrations under change control
- Draft and execute test scripts including IQ, OQ, PQ, and UAT, record test evidence, and maintain traceability matrices
- Apply data integrity principles such as ALCOA+ and regulations like 21 CFR Part 11 and EU GMP Annex 11
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation like data models, specifications, and user guides
- Comply with the SGS Code of Integrity, quality assurance procedures, and QHSE and HR policies
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in SQL development, scripting, and programming
- Proficiency in SQL using Microsoft SQL Server or an equivalent RDBMS
- Experience with Perl or similar languages such as Python, Delphi, VBS, C#, or Java
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Office tools skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
- Experience with or strong interest in Computer System Validation
- Affinity with regulated environments such as GxP and quality systems
