Job Description

Canonical runs a Device Delivery group that works with top-tier device manufacturers to ship Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Core preinstalled on consumer hardware. This is a people leadership post in which the holder runs the engineering group that carries out OEM enablement work. Doing it well means managing one's own time, knowing Linux systems deeply, debugging low-level faults, thinking critically and resolving problems with sound judgement.

Day to day, the manager hires, coaches and enables engineers, sets team goals and priorities, and monitors signs of team health. They supervise projects from kickoff through to the closing review, coordinate with project management, hardware enablement, QA and certification teams, and step in when issues escalate. The manager is also the point of contact for technical problems raised by OEMs, ODMs, SiPs and IHVs, and decides the sequence in which global customer requests are handled. Working with the Desktop, Foundations, Kernel and Security engineering teams is part of the role.

The posting is marked remote. It is aimed at a manager with technical depth in Linux, ideally Ubuntu or Debian, who has previously been responsible for other people and can travel to the EU, the USA, China and Taiwan.
