Job Description
Canonical's Partner Engineering team is hiring Linux software engineers to work across the whole Linux stack and make sure new silicon features run well on Ubuntu. The areas include hardware accelerators, AI software stacks, confidential computing, networking, virtualisation and containerisation. The team collaborates with chip makers to tune Ubuntu for several processor families, including x86, ARM and RISC-V. The post is globally remote and is offered across several roles and seniority levels.
Engineers work in a distributed team, raise software quality by reviewing colleagues' changes, and help shape Ubuntu's direction through fresh ideas and advice on other groups' work. They interact with the Ubuntu and Debian communities, upstream projects and paying customers. Typical duties include debugging open source and in-house code, helping customers bring their apps and SDKs together and build operating system images, and keeping Ubuntu, silicon-specific features and tuned packages in good shape. Focus areas span server, HPC and AI platforms, Internet of Things hardware, PCs, SmartNICs and automotive platforms, graphics, audio and multimedia stacks, hardware enablement, toolchains, package management and platform security.
Candidates should have an outstanding academic record and a technical undergraduate degree, or a convincing alternative route. Solid skills in C, C++ and Python are required, and interest in Linux distribution packaging, open source upkeep and licensing is valued. Applicants need a working grasp of how packages and their dependencies get resolved. Experience with virtualisation and containers, hardware enablement, performance tuning, networking protocols or security is useful. Global trips for internal events are part of the job and run for two to four weeks.
