Quora operates two primary platforms: a knowledge-sharing website and Poe, a cloud workspace for running multiple artificial intelligence agents. The company functions as a remote-first organization with a collaborative global team. This full-time position for a Machine Learning Engineer, New Grad, operates within the Quora product team to design, evaluate, and deploy production systems. The engineering group maintains over one hundred machine learning models in production to address platform safety and content quality. Individuals in this role will build large language model agents and automated workflows to identify and mitigate spam, harassment, and policy violations at scale. Candidates will collaborate closely with experienced engineers to own projects from early development through production deployment. The position is available for remote work across the United States and Canada.
Responsibilities
- Design, construct, and launch large language model-powered agents to spot and resolve policy-violating content, spam, and harassment at scale
- Create agentic workflows that automate intricate moderation tasks to boost the effectiveness of user and content systems
- Develop and refine machine learning architectures that adjust to shifting abuse techniques and emerging platform challenges
- Assess agent performance via offline evaluations, live tests, and production monitoring while balancing accuracy, latency, reliability, and expense
- Examine failure points, test novel strategies, and iterate on fixes to enhance overall system operation
- Discover new use cases for machine learning and large language models regarding content safety and quality
- Partner with seasoned engineers to take full project ownership from inception to production deployment
Requirements
- Be available for coordination meetings and impromptu discussions from Monday through Friday between 9 am and 3 pm Pacific Time
- Hold or be currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Demonstrate a robust grasp of the mathematical foundations behind machine learning algorithms
- Possess academic coursework, research, or practical project background involving transformer models or large language model applications
- Show strong proficiency in Python
- Exhibit enthusiasm for continuous personal and team learning
- Begin full-time employment in early 2027
Qualifications
- Bring prior software engineering experience gained through internships, professional roles, open-source projects, or coding competitions
- Have hands-on practice building and testing large language model agents in research, academic projects, internships, or production environments
- Utilize AI coding tools such as Codex or Claude Code on a regular basis
- Complete coursework or projects focused on natural language processing
- Maintain a genuine interest in content quality and safety
- Share passion for the mission and goals of Quora
