Job Description
Canonical is recruiting an MLOps Field Engineer to support large companies adopting AI and machine learning with open source tools running on public and private cloud, Linux and Kubernetes. The post belongs to the global Field Engineering team and works closely with enterprise sales leads. The posting is explicit that this is a customer-facing architecture job focused on designing machine learning systems for outside clients, not primarily a software development position.
The engineer brings technical insight to customer problems during the presales stage, designing cloud and data architectures and explaining them through solution presentations, demonstrations and training. The technologies named include Ubuntu, Kubeflow, MLflow, Feast, DVC, Kubernetes, Spark and OpenStack. Engineers advise on Ubuntu Pro and open source applications, deploy solutions on premises or on AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, and hand them to support or managed service teams when projects finish. They also pass customer requirements back to product teams and work with sales on shared goals.
Applicants should combine a technical background with a commercial outlook, and have a record in data engineering, MLOps or large-scale data platform work. Intermediate Python ability is required, along with practical knowledge of Linux, virtualisation, containers and networking. The posting asks for professional English and strong presenting skills. Travel abroad for events and customer visits can reach 30% of the time. Canonical notes that colleagues can live in almost any country and that it is growing teams across EMEA, the Americas and APAC time zones.
