Great Zimbabwe University- GZU is seeking a part-time educator for a teaching position in the field of Biology. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering instruction across three specific modules, which include Applied Plant Biotechnology, Introduction to Genetics and Molecular Biology, alongside guiding undergraduate research projects. Additional duties involve taking part in institutional research and innovation initiatives, as well as fulfilling academic and administrative tasks assigned by the Vice Chancellor through the Departmental Chairperson.
This role requires prior teaching experience at the university or tertiary level and suits qualified academic professionals with expertise in biological sciences. Selected individuals who lack a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher and Tertiary Education must complete one within their first three years of employment.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses for a minimum of 12 hours per week as allocated by the Head of Department
- Develop and review modules, course outlines, teaching materials, and e-learning content according to ZIMCHE standards
- Set, moderate, mark, and administer coursework and examinations following university policy
- Supervise student projects, dissertations, and work-related learning
- Conduct research and publish peer-reviewed papers in accredited journals
- Participate in community outreach activities connecting university knowledge to community issues
- Develop innovative teaching methods, prototypes, patents, curricula, or creative works
- Convert research outputs into innovations such as software, applications, teaching aids, and business models
- Transform innovations into goods and services intended for commercialization
- Participate in departmental income-generating projects
- Serve on departmental, school, and university committees
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Chairperson, Dean, or university management
Requirements
- Hold a Doctoral degree in Biology, a Master of Science degree in Biology, or an equivalent degree
- Hold a relevant first degree with at least an upper second class (2.1) degree classification
- Demonstrate mandatory teaching experience at the tertiary or university level
- Teach the three designated modules: Applied Plant Biotechnology, Introduction to Genetics, and Molecular Biology
- Obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher and Tertiary Education within the first three years of appointment if not already possessed
Qualifications
- Show progress toward acquiring a relevant Doctoral degree
- Possess a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher and Tertiary Education as an added advantage
