Job Description
micro1 is seeking a contractor for a PhysioNet Competitor (Biomedical Signal Processing & ML) position. This fully remote, global role requires roughly 15 hours per week with a flexible schedule that allows contractors to choose their working days and hours, including weekends. The compensation ranges from $60 to $120 per hour and is output-based, meaning experts are paid per task that satisfies project specifications. The employer engages specialists who have background in the PhysioNet Challenge or similar biomedical signal processing and machine learning competitions to help improve next-generation artificial intelligence systems.
In this position, contractors apply their scientific programming, modeling, and signal processing capabilities to build, solve, and assess advanced technical challenges. The work involves creating rigorous, self-contained problems related to biomedical signals, time-series data, signal processing, and machine learning, alongside developing clear reference solutions using Python, MATLAB, or another relevant scientific computing environment. Selected individuals work on tasks that include signal preprocessing, filtering, segmentation, feature extraction, representation learning, classification, or forecasting. Applicants must be able to explain their developed methods, executed experiments, personally owned technical decisions, and validation approaches. Prior experience working on artificial intelligence training projects is not necessary.
The hiring process begins with applying and answering screening questions, followed by a roughly 30-minute artificial intelligence interview and a hiring manager review. Selected experts must be ready to start immediately, typically beginning their first task within 24 to 48 hours after completing onboarding.
Responsibilities
- Create technically rigorous, self-contained problems involving biomedical signals, time-series data, signal processing, and machine learning
- Develop clear reference solutions using Python, MATLAB, or another appropriate scientific computing environment
- Handle tasks involving signal preprocessing, filtering, segmentation, feature extraction, representation learning, classification, or forecasting
Requirements
- Experience in the PhysioNet Challenge or comparable biomedical signal processing and machine learning competitions
- Ability to work directly with physiological signals and turn noisy, real-world data into rigorous and reproducible analysis
- Capacity to explain developed methods, conducted experiments, owned technical decisions, and result validation
- Readiness to begin immediately and start the first task within 24 to 48 hours of completing onboarding
Qualifications
- Participation in a PhysioNet, Computing in Cardiology, biomedical signal processing, or scientific machine learning competition
- Strong competition results and evidence of substantive personal technical contribution
- Public evidence of work through an official team result, conference paper, technical report, open-source repository, or meaningful code contribution
- Hands-on experience with physiological signals such as ECG, EEG, PPG, EMG, respiratory signals, polysomnography, or other clinical time-series data
Core Skills
Benefits
- Pay rate of $60 to $120 per hour
- Flexible schedule allowing workers to choose their hours and days, including weekends
- Global, fully remote work arrangement
