micro1 seeks a STEM Expert in Biology and Bioinformatics holding a PhD for a remote contract position available worldwide. In this capacity, the contractor will contribute to training upcoming artificial intelligence systems by providing high-grade real-world data input that influences how models function, learn, and reason. The professional will support AI benchmarking efforts through the creation, assessment, and critique of computational biology, bioinformatics, and biological workflows. Ideal candidates will possess advanced domain knowledge to steer the validation and creation of biological tools and AI models, as well as the ability to articulate intricate scientific principles clearly to both technical and non-technical partners.
Responsibilities
- Create, assess, and critique computational biology, bioinformatics, and biology workflows to back artificial intelligence benchmarking efforts
- Deliver expert insights regarding transcriptomic, genomic, proteomic, and alternative biological data analysis pipelines
- Evaluate and refine statistical methods, tool configurations, and pipeline parameters to maximize accuracy and reproducibility
- Examine biological datasets including single-cell, NGS, variant calling, protein structure, and RNA-seq to deliver practical recommendations
- Guide the validation and development of biology-focused AI models and instruments utilizing domain knowledge
- Explain complicated scientific ideas clearly in verbal and written formats to technical and non-technical peers
- Record findings, best practices, and methodologies to facilitate knowledge transfer across the team
Requirements
- Hold a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, biology, or a closely related STEM discipline, or possess equivalent research or industry experience
- Demonstrate professional written and spoken English proficiency at C1 level or higher
- Bring deep expertise in at least one specialized biological area along with practical experience analyzing authentic biological data
- Show proficiency in R and/or Python for scientific data analysis alongside familiarity with standard subfield tools
- Possess analytical, quantitative, and statistical reasoning capabilities
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills to document and explain technical topics
- Display a history of rigorous scientific problem-solving within complex biological sectors
Qualifications
- Experience operating in Linux or command-line settings and constructing reproducible workflows utilizing Snakemake or Nextflow
- Background involving benchmarking or AI/ML-assisted biology workflows
- Possession of peer-reviewed publications, patents, or contributions directed toward open-source bioinformatics software
