The organization is seeking a client-facing Principal Banking Technology and Solution Architect to serve as an independent contractor and senior technical advisor. In this role, the professional will collaborate directly with chief information officers, chief technology officers, and transformation leaders at Canadian credit unions. Responsibilities include guiding clients through critical platform choices, modernization efforts, and intricate technology migrations, such as transitioning away from Central 1 Forge while upgrading other technical components.
This hands-on consulting advisory position suits experienced enterprise architects and technology advisors who possess deep domain knowledge in Canadian credit unions and regulated financial services. The successful candidate will evaluate vendor platforms, manage architectural complexity, reduce delivery risks, and translate intricate technical concepts into practical recommendations for executive steering committees.
Engagement flexibility allows for part-time or full-time schedules depending on client demand, enabling the consultant to support multiple credit union clients concurrently. The work combines remote advisory responsibilities with occasional on-site sessions or stakeholder workshops.
Responsibilities
- Lead structured evaluations of enterprise technology platforms such as CRM, payments, digital banking, data analytics, and integration solutions
- Define business and technical evaluation criteria, architecture principles, requirements, and vendor scorecards
- Facilitate vendor demonstrations, proof-of-concept evaluations, technical due diligence, and reference checks
- Assess current-state enterprise architectures and design pragmatic future-state architectures
- Evaluate integration dependencies across core banking, digital banking, data warehouses, fraud systems, CRM, payments, and third-party services
- Advise credit unions on transitioning from Central 1 Forge to modern digital banking platforms
- Lead assessments of legacy banking analytics and reporting environments alongside modern data warehouses and lakehouses
- Build trusted relationships with credit union technology leadership teams and communicate complex decisions in clear business language
Requirements
- Twelve or more years of experience in enterprise technology, solution architecture, technical consulting, or banking technology delivery
- Significant working experience within banking, credit unions, or regulated financial services
- Demonstrated background leading technology platform evaluations and vendor selections
- Strong understanding of digital banking architectures, APIs, core banking integrations, data integration, and cloud platforms
- Experience working with enterprise data platforms like Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, or comparable technologies
- Based in Canada and available to collaborate with Canadian credit union clients
- Capacity to operate independently as a senior advisor across multiple client engagements
Qualifications
- Direct experience handling Central 1 Forge or Canadian credit union digital banking migrations
- Familiarity with digital banking platforms such as VeriPark, Backbase, Intellect Design, ebankIT, or Plumery
- Knowledge of credit union core banking systems including Fiserv DNA or RFS360
- Experience with Temenos analytics, Finastra platforms, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce, or Power BI
- Familiarity with Canadian financial services security, privacy, and regulatory requirements
- Background in migration readiness, technical assurance, release governance, and quality assurance strategy
- Previous experience serving as a Chief Architect, CTO, Principal Architect, or senior technology consultant
