Recorded Future, Inc. is seeking a Principal Dark Web Collection Analyst to expand its underground community intelligence capabilities. In this role, you will act as the company's internal authority on the dark web ecosystem, guiding strategy and making tactical decisions regarding intelligence collection across criminal forums, illicit marketplaces, and covert messaging channels. This position suits an experienced threat researcher who can balance high-level strategic planning with hands-on operational duties.

You will personally navigate underground infrastructure, maintain access, manage personas, and extract direct intelligence. The work involves partnering with engineering teams to automate collection pipelines, producing finished intelligence products for technical and executive audiences, and representing the organization externally through blogs and presentations.

Recorded Future serves over 1,900 clients globally and employs personnel representing more than 40 nationalities. The company emphasizes high ethical standards and inclusion while disrupting adversaries through advanced intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Advise product, engineering, sales, and analyst teams as the company-wide subject matter expert on underground community dynamics.
  • Make and defend strategic collection choices regarding which forums, markets, and channels to pursue or avoid.
  • Identify, evaluate, and access criminal forums, darknet marketplaces, and Telegram channels within legal and policy boundaries.
  • Develop and maintain collection strategies, source documentation, and operational personas.
  • Work alongside engineering to translate research tradecraft into automated collection pipelines.
  • Track operational disruptions like takedowns or rebrands and adapt collection methods accordingly.
  • Create finished intelligence reports detailing key threat actors, infrastructure shifts, and community trends.
  • Engage in external outreach by writing public content, presenting at webinars, and participating in research.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of practical dark web threat research experience with verifiable collection results across various channels.
  • Deep, current familiarity with how major criminal forums and darknet markets operate, govern access, and evolve.
  • Proven capability to navigate closed or invite-only communities while keeping strict operational security and legal compliance.
  • Professional working proficiency in the Russian language.
  • Advanced analytical writing skills capable of producing concise intelligence for technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to represent the company externally via webinars, customer presentations, and public writing.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in additional languages pertinent to underground communities such as Ukrainian, Romanian, Chinese, Portuguese, or Arabic.
  • Prior background in cybercrime research, threat actor tracking, or law enforcement intelligence.
  • Experience working at a threat intelligence vendor, computer security incident response team, law enforcement agency, or intelligence organization.
  • Basic scripting capability in Python for tasks like data parsing and format conversion.
