Pinterest operates a digital platform where global users discover inspiration, creative ideas, and planning resources. The company is hiring a Security Software Engineer II, Detection and Response to fortify infrastructure and safeguard personnel against evolving internal and external threats.
This position is suited for a practitioner with a strong background in security engineering, cloud environments, and threat detection. In this role, the engineer will construct alerts, manage logging pipelines, create internal automation tooling, and conduct threat hunting activities. The successful candidate will leverage artificial intelligence to optimize daily workflows while maintaining personal accountability for final deliverables.
The position is based in San Francisco, though applicants can reside anywhere in the country as long as they travel to the office for in-person collaboration once or twice every six months. Compensation includes a base salary between $123,696 and $254,667 USD along with eligibility for equity. Relocation assistance is not offered for this role.
Responsibilities
- Build alerts and automation workflows to detect external and internal security threats
- Manage logging pipelines and infrastructure while onboarding new logging sources
- Develop and maintain internal tooling to scale team detection and response capabilities
- Respond to alerts and participate in an on-call rotation to manage incidents
- Collaborate with partners across multiple teams
- Hunt for undetected threats within the environment
- Utilize artificial intelligence to increase efficiency, accuracy, and coverage in security engineering
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of intrusion detection and incident response focused on engineering within a modern cloud-first environment
- Understanding of the attacker lifecycle alongside common attack and detection techniques
- Hands-on experience writing SIEM queries for alerting, response, and threat hunting
- Experience utilizing threat intelligence to enhance detection capabilities
- Familiarity with multiple telemetry sources including EDR, Osquery, and firewall logs
- Understanding of networking technologies, network security, and TCP/IP fundamentals
- Depth in MacOS internals, or alternatively in Linux/UNIX or Windows internals, persistence mechanisms, and privilege escalation techniques
- Scripting or automation experience using Python, Go, or Ruby for tool development and integration
- Demonstrated ability to apply artificial intelligence for workflow improvements alongside critical evaluation and verification of AI-assisted work
- High integrity and ownership regarding sensitive data and accountability for deliverables
- Ability to travel to the office for collaboration one to two times every six months
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience
