Job Description
Huntress seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead the creation of its Agentic SOC, an innovative system designed to investigate alerts end-to-end using large language models. Operating from a fully remote setting, this individual will take charge of architecture and system direction to augment human security analysts rather than replace them, handling high volumes of telemetry while ensuring accuracy and proper human handoffs. The employer specializes in providing enterprise-grade cybersecurity solutions protected by a continuous human-led Security Operations Center, supporting millions of endpoints globally. This role suits an experienced engineer with a strong security mindset who can balance technical rigor with pragmatism while building production-grade distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Manage the overall architecture for agent-driven investigations, defining event flows, state management, and clear evidence outputs.
- Translate expert analyst triage behaviors into functional agent workflows.
- Implement LLM-driven pre-processing tools to summarize and correlate routine data sources for analysts.
- Incorporate strong security practices including tenant isolation, audit trails, and defense against malicious input manipulation.
- Establish robust evaluation frameworks with labeled datasets, regression gates, and offline testing.
- Determine task autonomy levels based on performance metrics and system reliability.
- Design for high performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency at scale despite model latency or changes.
- Create clear handover mechanics between automated processes and human staff members.
- Prototype complex challenges and lead technical discussions across engineering, product, and security leadership.
Requirements
- Over 15 years of software development background including acting as a technical lead for production systems.
- Hands-on production experience building and operating LLM agents involving tool use, context management, and guardrails.
- Proven track record creating evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic systems.
- Demonstrated security focus managing untrusted input, multi-tenant isolation, and audit logging.
- Background building automated systems with real-world consequences and establishing correct automation boundaries.
- Backend expertise in distributed systems, queues, durable workflows, and concurrency management.
- Strong proficiency in backend programming languages with the capacity to quickly adopt Ruby on Rails.
- Familiarity with public cloud platforms like AWS or Azure along with data stores such as Postgres and Redis.
- Experience leveraging AI coding assistants responsibly.
Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Background working inside a Security Operations Center, incident response team, threat hunting unit, or detection engineering group.
- Familiarity with endpoint and identity telemetry along with attacker tactics.
- Prior exposure to adversarial testing or attacking machine learning and LLM architectures.
