Job Description
Airalo is hiring a Procurement Director to build its procurement function and policy from zero. It is a senior, hands-on post for someone who likes to create: writing the rules, leading the largest negotiations and generating savings that support growth and profitability. The director reports to the Chief Financial Officer and works with every spending area in the business.
The director sets the purchasing framework, covering approval limits, supplier onboarding and competitive tender standards, and creates one consolidated view of what is bought, from whom and on which terms. The three biggest spend pools are networks, sales and marketing, and IT and software. The remit also takes in the master agreement library, the renewal timetable, supplier performance and due diligence on third parties. Rolling a disciplined purchase-to-pay workflow into the incoming ERP is included, and controls such as separation of duties and audit trails have to meet the SOX-lite framework. Savings are verified jointly with Finance.
The location is shown as the United Kingdom, and the posting permits remote work from Spain, the UK or the UAE. Hires in Spain and the UAE go through an employer of record. Candidates should have a decade or more in procurement, sourcing or category management, ideally including the creation of a purchasing function in a fast-growing company.
Responsibilities
- Draft and launch the procurement policy, approval thresholds, supplier onboarding rules and tendering standards.
- Design approval routes that keep control in place without holding up the business.
- Run category plans spanning networks, sales and marketing, IT and SaaS, and professional services.
- Set up one authoritative record of spend and a vendor classification scheme.
- Introduce standard credit-terms guidance and a framework for applying it.
- Keep a verified savings pipeline with Finance, linked to zero-based budgeting.
- Build separation of duties, audit trails and anti-fraud safeguards in keeping with SOX-lite.
- Lead competitive sourcing and major negotiations on total cost of ownership, and improve working capital.
- Oversee the contract library, the renewal calendar, supplier scorecards and third-party risk reviews.
- Manage requisition, purchase order and three-way match steps, keep accruals accurate, and bring procurement into ERP design.
Requirements
- A decade or more in procurement, sourcing, or commercial and category roles.
- Experience creating or materially expanding a procurement function at a rapidly scaling company.
- Deep knowledge of indirect categories such as marketing, IT and SaaS, and professional services.
- Hands-on exposure to buying network, telecom or infrastructure capacity, routing and wholesale services.
- A record of running tenders and hard negotiations that produced measured savings.
- Practical experience designing purchase order and purchase-to-pay processes in an ERP such as SAP, Oracle or Microsoft.
- Strong grip on procurement policy, delegated authority, supplier risk and controls.
- Able to change buying behaviour across networks, marketing and technology leaders without formal authority.
Qualifications
- Background in a high-growth company with controls and audit-readiness maturity.
- Direct involvement in an ERP or purchase-to-pay implementation.
- Comfort working across currencies, jurisdictions and a globally distributed team.
