Job Description
Polar is hiring a senior product engineer for a full-time, remote position. The company is building financial infrastructure for AI-era products, centered on billing for usage-based software, flexible pricing and AI agents. The engineer would help build features across the whole stack and influence how developers and merchants experience the platform.
Ownership is central. The engineer would find opportunities, ship and refine features, and remain accountable both for the technical build and the business result. The posting puts real weight on developer experience: clean interfaces, capable APIs and sensible abstractions that make intricate billing and monetization logic approachable. Releases are expected to come steadily, with quality and speed kept in balance. The engineer would also talk with merchants, learning how they operate and turning their feedback into product changes.
Polar looks for people with solid production experience, real depth in one area of the stack, and comfort on both sides of it. Product sense matters: knowing what to leave out, holding firm views on what makes software good, and challenging assumptions when needed. Because the team is small and distributed, self-direction and a willingness to take on several roles are important. Curiosity about new tooling, including AI-assisted coding, is welcome provided the engineer stays close to the code they release. Work with payment, billing or developer-facing products counts as a notable advantage. The stack is TypeScript, React and Effect for the frontend, Python with FastAPI and Dramatiq for the backend, and Postgres, ClickHouse and AWS for infrastructure.
