Job Description
Canonical is recruiting a Public Cloud Solution Architect whose job is to run shared projects and technical work with the largest cloud providers. The post is full-time and remote, based in the Americas region. It acts as the technical partner to the company's Cloud Alliance go-to-market lead and works with engineering, sales and product teams inside Canonical as well as at cloud partners. Canonical publishes Ubuntu and runs a distributed workforce of about 1,200 people across more than 75 countries.
The role is not a sales position, yet it requires technical depth, commercial judgement, and an ability to weigh the strategies of both Canonical and its partners. The architect works with product, engineering and alliance groups at cloud partners to line up open source strategy, ensures Canonical's product requirements are clearly defined and delivered as planned, and keeps relationships with partner engineers to integrate and fine-tune Ubuntu on cloud platforms. They also serve as product champion and key contact for designated partners.
Other duties include aligning alongside marketing and product groups on messages, content and launch schedules, producing webinars, decks, videos and white papers for partners and customers, and promoting Ubuntu adoption across cloud offerings. The architect also helps take first-party products with subscription elements to market with providers, and works to make Canonical technology the preferred choice for partners and the end users who run on their platforms.
Applicants need a working grasp of, and real interest in, public cloud technology, a technical undergraduate qualification or a well-argued different background, and a track record of exceeding goals. Leadership, skill development and mentoring matter, along with polished business English for writing and presenting. Travel abroad twice a year at company gatherings lasting up to two weeks is required. Exposure to Linux distributions, the big public clouds, DevOps practice, container work, product management, partner management or go-to-market planning would help. Pay depends on location, experience and performance.
