Job Description
Adthena is a search intelligence provider whose paid-search tools are built on patented AI. The company dates to 2012, has Updata Partners as an investor, and reports eight major search industry awards in 2025. This remote role is for applicants in the UK, with a rapid start and two interview rounds.
The engineer develops durable, large-volume web collection systems focused on Google and similar search platforms. The position combines data work, reverse engineering and reliability practice. Problems to solve include dynamic rendering, anti-bot defenses, frequently changing page markup and very heavy traffic, and the resulting data needs to be exact, timely and dependable.
Daily duties include writing Python collectors, building browser-driven collectors for pages that depend on JavaScript, and quickly adapting to changes in layout and in anti-automation tactics. The engineer builds extraction flows, manages proxies, fingerprinting and routing, tracks collection health, investigates production faults, tunes speed and spend, and documents the logic so colleagues can maintain it.
Adthena calls itself a leader in adopting AI-assisted coding and welcomes engineers who want to grow through agentic development. The company is looking for a person with strong production scraping experience, deep work against well-defended sites, and a clear understanding of web protocols and browser internals. The position reports to the Head of Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Build and run large Python collection systems that hold up against Google and other heavily defended sites
- Write browser-based collectors for JavaScript-heavy pages, mixing approaches where needed
- Adapt quickly when page layouts, request flows or anti-automation tactics change
- Create extraction flows that favor accuracy, consistency and observability
- Plan proxy, fingerprint and routing methods that maximize stability and throughput
- Track collection health, catch faults early and resolve production incidents
- Reduce latency and running cost across the collection infrastructure
- Team up with data, analytics and product staff so the output can be trusted
- Document crawl logic and operational runbooks
Requirements
- Solid production background in Python, or in Go, Rust or JavaScript, for scraping work
- Real-world experience gathering data from Google or similarly guarded platforms
- Sound knowledge of HTTP and TLS, plus cookies, request headers, redirects and how browsers network
- Practical use of Playwright, Selenium, Puppeteer or equivalent automation tools
- Strong skill with HTML parsing, DOM navigation and extraction
- Experience coping with throttling, CAPTCHAs, IP rotation and bot detection
- Ease with asynchronous and concurrent collector architectures
- Experience running collection jobs at scale in cloud environments
- Excellent debugging instincts and an ability to reason through intricate failure cases
- Familiarity with browser fingerprinting and techniques for evading anti-bot systems
Qualifications
- Comfort with Docker and Kubernetes
- Exposure to queues and distributed task frameworks
- Some background in data quality checks and anomaly spotting
- Experience with search, ad or competitive intelligence datasets
Core Skills
Benefits
- Engineering culture mixing startup energy with an established company's steadiness

- Fully paid maternity leave up to six months, with two months of paternity leave
- $200 for home-office setup and a $70 company merchandise credit
