Job Description
Adthena offers a paid-search intelligence platform built on patented AI and supported by specialists. Clients include agencies, brands and marketers who need a view of competitors in paid search. Founded in 2012 and backed by Updata Partners, the company reports eight major search awards in 2025. This remote engineering role is open only to applicants in the European countries named in the posting.
The Senior Anti-Bot Engineer builds and operates large-scale scraping infrastructure, primarily against Google and comparable search engines. The job sits where data engineering, reverse engineering and reliability engineering meet. Obstacles include dynamic page rendering, anti-bot protections, markup that changes often, and very high request volumes, and the output must remain correct, current and dependable.
Typical work includes building Python crawlers that stay stable against heavily protected sites, extracting data from script-heavy pages through browser automation, and adjusting quickly when layouts or request sequences shift. The engineer designs extraction pipelines, plans proxy, browser-fingerprint and routing approaches, watches the health of each scrape, and reduces cost and latency. Writing clear runbooks so the systems stay maintainable is part of the job.
Adthena describes itself as a leader in AI-assisted development and invites engineers who like agentic coding to grow their skills. Candidates should bring solid production Python experience, a record of scraping Google or similarly defended platforms, and comfort with web protocols and browser networking.
Responsibilities
- Architect and maintain large Python crawlers that stay dependable against Google and other heavily protected sites
- Create crawlers for script-heavy pages with browser automation and hybrid methods
- Keep pace as page layouts, request flows and anti-automation tactics evolve
- Design extraction pipelines with accuracy, consistency and monitoring in mind
- Plan proxy rotation, fingerprint handling and request routing for stability and throughput
- Monitor scrape health, detect problems early and debug live issues
- Lower the cost and latency of the crawl infrastructure
- Collaborate with data, data science and product colleagues to keep outputs trustworthy
- Write documentation and runbooks for crawl logic
Requirements
- Strong production experience with Python, or with Go, Rust or JavaScript, in scraping systems
- Proven track record scraping Google or similarly guarded platforms
- Working grasp of the HTTP and TLS protocols, plus cookies, request headers, redirects and browser communication
- Hands-on use of Playwright, Selenium, Puppeteer or similar automation frameworks
- Good command of parsing HTML, traversing the DOM and extracting data
- Experience handling throttling, CAPTCHAs, IP rotation and bot detection
- Comfort with asynchronous, concurrent crawler designs
- Experience operating crawlers at scale in the cloud
- Sharp debugging and clear reasoning about complicated failures
- Know-how in fingerprinting headless browsers and in working around anti-bot measures
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
- Exposure to distributed task frameworks and job queues
- Experience watching data quality and spotting anomalies
- Background in search, ads or competitive intelligence datasets
