Job Description
Veracyte is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist to lead the creation and evolution of next-generation minimal residual disease laboratory-developed tests. Operating globally, Veracyte functions as a diagnostics company focused on improving cancer care by supplying clinicians with critical insights via its diagnostics platform.
This position requires an independent expert to handle assay bioinformatics from initial concept through analytical validation and commercial launch. The professional in this role will devise bioinformatics strategies, build robust computational pipelines, and collaborate across scientific disciplines including wet-lab, clinical, quality, regulatory, and software teams.
The role suits a quantitative scientist with a strong background in oncology assays and circulating tumor DNA biology who thrives in regulated healthcare environments under design control. The person joining this team will shape analytical methods, mentor junior colleagues, and contribute directly to regulatory filings and quality systems.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the bioinformatics strategy for minimal residual disease assay design, optimization, and lifecycle management under CAP/CLIA quality systems
- Design and execute analytical performance evaluations covering accuracy, limits of detection, and reproducibility alongside wet-lab and biostatistics partners
- Develop, validate, and maintain scalable, production-ready analysis pipelines handling quality control, variant calling, and reporting logic
- Partner closely with molecular biology, assay development, QA/RA, clinical, and software engineering teams to align solutions with operational and regulatory constraints
- Contribute to regulatory submissions and audits by supplying technical documentation, validation reports, and inquiries responses
- Offer technical mentorship and scientific guidance to junior scientists to elevate overall execution rigor
Requirements
- Minimum six years of total relevant experience in biotechnology, diagnostics, or regulated healthcare settings
- Demonstrated experience in next-generation sequencing assay development for clinical diagnostics
- Hands-on background with circulating tumor DNA-based minimal residual disease assays, using personalized or tumor-informed approaches
- Strong programming skills in Python to build reproducible, production-grade analysis pipelines adhering to software development lifecycle best practices
- Proven experience operating in design-controlled, regulated environments such as CAP/CLIA laboratory-developed tests or in-vitro diagnostics
- Proficiency in creating novel bioinformatics methodologies and algorithms, along with benchmarking computational methods
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biostatistics, or a closely related quantitative field, or a Master of Science plus three additional years of industry experience
- Experience building and deploying bioinformatics workflows in Amazon Web Services including EC2, S3, Step Functions, Batch, and Lambda
- Solid understanding of germline and somatic mutation processes resulting in complex variation and genome-wide clinical biomarkers
- Working knowledge of the R programming language
- Familiarity with relational and non-relational database technologies
Core Skills
Benefits
- Competitive compensation package with a base salary ranging between USD 150,000 and 189,000 per year
- Eligibility for additional discretionary bonuses or incentives
- Allocation of restricted stock units
