Job Description
DuckDuckGo is a privacy-focused online company whose remote-first staff exceeds 300 people. Its offerings include desktop and mobile browsers, a search engine, a paid subscription and Duck.ai, an optional AI chat product. The remote, full-time post is a senior role for data science work, guiding product and business choices via modeling, experiment planning, Bayesian marketing studies and classifiers.
Current projects include defining core growth measures and building monitoring for trends and anomalies, evaluating campaigns for Duck.ai, detecting sudden changes in search traffic, widening evaluation sets for page context across complicated browsing, and tuning when AI-generated answers show up in search. Because user data is privacy-protected and often thin, the scientist has to find clever ways to surface useful signal in an evidence-first culture. Each team member owns their work from scoping through execution and postmortem.
Seven-plus years in data science are expected, along with a history of carrying intricate projects from planning to launch with limited direction. Candidates should also be able to do at least two of the following: deploy machine learning in production, build NLP systems, work with LLMs including fine-tuning and LLM-as-judge, or run Bayesian marketing analysis. Strong production Python, advanced SQL, experience with columnar stores such as BigQuery, ClickHouse, Redshift or Druid, and experiment design are needed. Tableau or Power BI skills are a bonus. Pay is $178,500 USD per year plus stock options, equal for all team members at the same level and region. Company health coverage is limited to team members in the United States.

- Advanced SQL and query optimization
- Ability to draw insights from sparse or privacy-limited data
