Job Description

Blavity Inc., a venture-backed news media and technology organization established in 2014, seeks a Senior Director, New Business Development to spearhead revenue expansion into unexplored sectors. Operating as a market leader reaching over 250 million users monthly across brands like AfroTech, Blavity News, and Shadow & Act, the enterprise prioritizes cultural connection, transparency, and collective responsibility. This position suits an experienced consultative seller capable of penetrating new markets and navigating intricate purchasing committees.

The person in this role will focus on bringing in net-new accounts from industries that have not historically worked with the AfroTech and Blavity ecosystem, including defense, energy, insurance, government technology, logistics, and professional services. Responsibilities center on identifying prospective clients, uncovering business challenges, and designing multi-channel solutions involving sponsorships, talent programs, branded content, and live event experiences. The ideal professional brings strong listening skills, deep industry networks, and the storytelling capability to transform first-time buyers into long-term partners. Candidates must align at least 50 percent of their working hours with the Central Time Zone.

Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed annual revenue goals for new business across untapped industry verticals
  • Create and implement go-to-market strategies that cover account targeting, pricing, and positioning for each vertical
  • Manage the entire sales cycle from initial outreach to closing contracts with enterprise accounts
  • Conduct discovery sessions with prospective clients to identify organizational goals and brand objectives
  • Develop custom proposals integrating media, sponsorships, trade show presence, and talent programs
  • Navigate complex buying structures involving marketing, HR, DEI, procurement, and public sector purchasing
  • Forecast and oversee sales pipelines using Salesforce and deliver regular reports to executive leadership

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor of Arts degree
  • Bring 12 or more years of experience in enterprise sales or business development with a history of opening new markets
  • Demonstrate experience selling into target industries such as insurance, logistics, energy, legal, or public safety
  • Possess proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Salesforce
  • Be available to work at least 50% in alignment with the Central Time Zone

Qualifications

  • Prior experience selling conference sponsorships, live event programs, or trade show exhibitor packages
  • Formal training in consultative sales methodologies such as Sandler, Challenger, SPIN, or Solution Selling
  • Established professional network of decision-makers within at least one target industry
  • Familiarity with public sector or regulated procurement processes
