The organization seeks a Senior Software Developer to join the Elasticsearch Security team. In this position, the selected professional will contribute to the architectural planning and production delivery of core security components within the Elasticsearch engine, focusing on features like authorization, authentication, and tenant isolation. Daily tasks involve designing security frameworks, optimizing performance across distributed systems, integrating cryptographic solutions, and partnering with the InfoSec group to manage vulnerabilities.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to core security initiatives from architecture to production for critical feature delivery
- Participate in technical planning, design, and execution for major security components inside the Elasticsearch core engine
- Develop foundational security models and optimize security performance at scale within distributed systems
- Apply cryptographic solutions to address actual customer use cases and ensure robust data isolation
- Collaborate with peers to embed security into customer features from the outset
- Partner with the InfoSec team on vulnerability management to proactively identify, assess, and remediate security risks
- Utilize AI-driven tooling to automate vulnerability triage, prioritization, and preliminary investigation
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of Java internals, JVM memory management, and concurrency models
- Ability to write high-performance, thread-safe, and lock-free code within large open-source and enterprise codebases
- Experience building scalable and performant authorization systems under high concurrency and large permission sets
- Solid comprehension of distributed systems security, including zero-trust transport, node-to-node mutual trust, partition tolerance, and cluster state propagation
- Deep knowledge of edge identity protocols such as OAuth 2.0 and SAML
- Demonstrated track record of using AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code
- Ability to collaborate across functions and work autonomously in a distributed team via asynchronous and transparent communication
Qualifications
- Knowledge of cipher suites, TLS handshakes, and PKI or certificate lifecycle management
- Familiarity with cryptographic methods regarding memory usage and delays, along with readiness for Post-Quantum Cryptography migration
- Hands-on experience mapping engine-level technical controls to FedRAMP, FIPS 140, and SOC 2 requirements
- Prior experience working on the internals of a data store or search engine
