Canonical is recruiting a Senior Software Engineer for Juju work, the engine behind its model-driven operations. Juju manages complex software on public and private clouds, Kubernetes and bare-metal machines. Paired with the Ops framework, it offers a complete way to run applications and infrastructure. Many internal and external groups depend on it, including managed-solutions teams, OpenStack and cloud delivery teams, and large enterprise customers. The role is full-time and open to candidates anywhere in the world.
The engineer owns features in a highly concurrent, widely distributed system that automates cloud operations at scale, from design and build through to support and upkeep. The work is collaborative and spread across time zones, and the engineer is expected to investigate problems and discuss fixes in public with upstream communities.
Because the role is senior, it also involves helping the manager run the team, pushing for better processes, and mentoring engineers with less experience so the team keeps getting stronger. Expect roughly two to four weeks of travel each year for internal and external gatherings, and candidates should be prepared to travel up to four times annually.
Applicants should have a proven history of shipping professional software in Go, plus practical experience building highly concurrent distributed systems. Clear English, spoken and written, is essential, particularly for online collaboration. Familiarity with agile methods and a strong academic record from high school and, ideally, university are also expected.
