Job Description

Natera's work centers on cell-free DNA testing for cancer, women's health and organ conditions. Its Research group is developing blood-based tests able to spot many kinds of cancer from one sample. The opening is at senior or lead level, as a bioinformatics scientist on the analytical side of that work. The person handles large, multi-modal genomic data gathered in patient studies and helps move methods from early prototypes to scalable software, clinical validation and eventually patient care.

This is a full-time, remote position based in the United States. The scientist would design and validate analytic algorithms for large multimodal epigenomic data sets, run research analyses from build through performance testing, and add capabilities to existing pipelines. Responsibilities include verifying the integrity and quality of sequencing and patient records, collaborating with molecular biologists and clinicians on open questions, and presenting findings to technical and general audiences. The scientist would also help define the group's expectations for code quality and reproducible work.

Qualifying backgrounds include a doctorate in biology, bioinformatics or computer science, or a similar field, or a master's or bachelor's degree plus four years of professional work. Candidates should have built and checked pipelines for high-throughput sequencing data, applied statistical and machine learning techniques to large data collections, and worked fluently in Python's scientific stack. Comfort with Linux terminals and cloud environments is expected. Pluses include DNA methylation work, cell-free DNA or liquid biopsy experience, a cancer genomics background, large clinical cohort metadata, and experience with foundation models in biology.

Responsibilities

  • Create and assess new algorithms for large multimodal epigenomic data sets
  • Lead research analyses from implementation through testing and performance measurement
  • Handle sequencing and clinical records from big cohorts while protecting data integrity
  • Team up with molecular biology and clinical colleagues on hard, open-ended questions
  • Visualize outputs and deliver findings to technical and lay audiences
  • Help set quality and reproducibility norms for the team's code

Requirements

  • Doctorate in a related field, or a master's or bachelor's degree plus four-plus years of professional work
  • Demonstrated ability to build and validate workflows for high-throughput sequencing
  • Applying and assessing statistical and machine learning methods on sizeable datasets
  • Sharp quantitative thinking applied to real scientific problems
  • Python proficiency with its scientific computing libraries
  • Comfort on the Linux command line and in cloud computing environments

Qualifications

  • Hands-on familiarity with DNA methylation and other epigenomic datasets
  • Exposure to cfDNA work and liquid biopsy specimens
  • Grounding in cancer genomics or diagnostic work
  • Experience handling metadata from large clinical cohorts
  • Use of AI tools and foundation models on biological data

Core Skills

Benefits

  • Health, dental, eye, life and disability coverage for eligible staff and their families
  • Free testing for staff and immediate family, plus fertility care support
  • Pregnancy and baby bonding leave, and a 401(k) plan
  • Commuter benefits and an employee referral scheme
