Stedi is hiring a remote Senior Legal Counsel to join its small and effective Legal team. The company operates a healthcare clearinghouse and revenue cycle management engine, offering modern and AI-ready APIs alongside traditional batch and real-time electronic data interchange processes. In this position, the attorney will manage the majority of company deal flow, guiding agreements from initial redlines to signatures, amendments, assignments, and renewals.
This role suits an experienced generalist lawyer who can balance commercial contracting, complex business structures, regulatory compliance, and data-use considerations involving HIPAA. The incoming counsel will handle negotiations with various counterparties, from fast-growing healthtech startups to national payers and established industry participants. Stedi expects the legal professional to utilize technology and artificial intelligence tools to automate rules-based contracting processes, establish standard positions, and partner closely with internal teams such as Sales and Account Management.
Candidates must possess bar admission and several years of relevant transactional, commercial contracting, or regulatory experience gained in BigLaw or high-growth corporate environments. While healthtech background is a plus, it is not mandatory. The organization values strong legal judgment, curiosity, precision, business acumen, and the capability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
- Manage customer contracts across the complete lifecycle, including initial redlines, signatures, amendments, assignments, and renewals
- Negotiate complex commercial structures and terms within a fast-paced, regulated industry
- Drive the closure of payer trading partner agreements and key vendor agreements while adhering to compliance guidelines
- Utilize artificial intelligence and other legal technology to build and maintain the contracting engine and automate routine tasks
- Analyze negotiation patterns to develop standardized positions, improved templates, and reduced escalations
- Act as the primary legal resource for Sales and Account Management teams by answering day-to-day inquiries and coaching on positions
- Assume additional responsibilities in new areas as the business and legal team expand
Requirements
- Hold active bar admission
- Possess several years of commercial contracting, regulatory counseling, or transactional experience
- Demonstrate hands-on experience using artificial intelligence tools, contract lifecycle management platforms, or other legal technology
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in BigLaw or a high-growth company setting
- Background in the healthtech sector
