Fieldwire by Hilti is seeking a remote Senior Platform Engineer to enhance tooling and automation, enabling rapid deployment of features and services for users. This role is well-suited for a seasoned engineer with extensive cloud infrastructure experience who enjoys mentoring teammates, driving system reliability, and establishing scalable architectures. Key duties involve managing production health, leading incident responses, developing Infrastructure-as-Code, and implementing observability systems. Candidates will work fully remotely within the United States, though the headquarters are located in San Francisco.
Responsibilities
- Design, construct, and automate infrastructure and the Software Development Lifecycle
- Manage production system reliability and performance by spearheading incident response, root-cause investigations, and preventative solutions
- Establish and oversee monitoring, alerting, and observability tools to maximize uptime
- Troubleshoot complex application performance, scalability, and security challenges
- Formulate technical strategy and architectural decisions for platform infrastructure alongside engineering leadership
- Mentor fellow engineers on secure system design, operational excellence, and infrastructure best practices
- Participate in and help coordinate an on-call rotation managing change and incidents
Requirements
- 5 to 7 years of professional background as a Platform Engineer, SRE, or DevOps Engineer with direct ownership of production systems
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Golang, Java, Python, Ruby, or Rust
- Demonstrated experience running AWS cloud infrastructure and CI/CD services at scale
- Extensive background utilizing Docker and containerization in production settings
- Substantial participation in and leadership of on-call rotations for incident resolution
- Strong expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform or AWS CDK to design secure and reusable patterns
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- Familiarity with the Rust programming language and its ecosystem
- Background designing and executing CI/CD architectures across multiple regions and accounts
- Experience with package management systems and strategies
- Track record of directing cross-team reliability or infrastructure initiatives
